Better writing? Telltale's Season 2 or Michonne?

  • Season 2. I sorta hated Michonne.

  • I liked the characterization of people in Michonne better than in Season 2, in my opinion.

  • By far, Michonne Miniseries is my election.

The narrative of the miniseries has a solid foundation that relies on the conflict that multiple parties generated—Rashid, Vanessa and the ferry inhabitants, the scavengers, the Monroe colonists, the Fairbanks and The Companion crew, and Michonne herself by extension. This, in my opinion, is much better suited to serve as basis for a Telltale video game than the flimsy and deliberately unexplored beef of Howe's leader and the cabin group.

With the exception of Bonnie, Kenny, Jane and Arvo, Season Two has no memorable and ambiguous characters, whereas I believe that Michonne has plenty of them. Even when looking at minor characters such as Paige, the crew, Gabby, Zachary and Jonas, I can appreciate that they feel real and complex, with an original personality.

Michonne Miniseries also explores the themes of emotional trauma and moral ambiguity, and those are two of the few aspects that could lead me to like a video game instantly.

  • The Michonne DLC was a self contained story that pretty much knew what it wanted to do, who is was supposed to be focused on, and it actually stuck to its guns as far as I can tell.

    Of course it wins.

  • I loved the writing in Michonne better.

Seems like I'm the only one who liked season 2 better than Michonne. :-/

  • Do you mean the writing or Season 2 itself?

  • Both.

I enjoyed the writing for both series, but I thought Michonne's writing felt a bit more focused on sticking to one central idea.

  • Okay.... Objectively speaking, I say that Michonne had the better writing for the reasons I gave above, despite not having played it myself nor having anything connection to Michonne going into it.

While I have a more personal connection and preference to Season 2, it still struggled with all of those points and then some.

    Both.

  • I liked Season 2 way more than Michonne. Not saying Michonne was bad at all. I just prefer Season 2, with its flaws and all.

  • S2 by a long shot. Some things in the Michonne game were just plain bad imo. I didn't like how the boat crew were established then forgotten with zero character growth or interaction. The plot line about Pete's missing freinds was dropped and I wasn't a fan of that. Constant bombardment from Michonne's kids, which was annoying. Also, an entire boat community was burnt to the sea/lake by one tiny boat. These were major issues I had with the game and many other small ones. With S2 however, I didn't really have a problem with all that much, except maybe the plots direction lacking focus from time to time.

  • I couldn't care less for Michonne's characters so Season 2 is my choice.

  • Easily season 2 even with all it's flaws. Michonne game was well below par for what a Telltale WD game should be. Way too action driven and one of the worst main villains (Randall) I have ever seen. Michonne just isn't playable character material. Doesn't have the personality for it.

  • I felt season 2 had better writing. The worst crime Michonne made was that outside of the titular character, the story and characters were boring.

  • These are just my personal opinion.

Michonne have a much more tighter and focused plot, but less memorable characters.

Season 2 have a less focused plot, but more memorable characters that you care about.

If the choice are up to me, I would choose Season 2, because I am ultimately more invested in Clem and her group than Michonne's group. But then again, it was a mini-series with the focus being on Michonne's character, so it is expected that the characters doesn't get that much focus.

  • S2 is better.

  • S2. I can't even remember any of the original character's names in Michonne.

  • Michonne, definitely. It didn't backtrack on any of its themes unlike S2 (even though Michonne sides with Sam, she's basically always suspicious of her, as opposed to suggesting that Jane and Kenny deserve to be saved for reasons that led everyone else to die) and at the very least, the dropped (or perhaps establishing) RaNessa plot line provided an asset or two for the main one.

The only option appropriate is the game that doesn't have a shitty infant character being shat out to gauge a knee-jerk emotional response in one of the worse 2 hours ever dedicated to a video game story narrative... ever.

    Michonne all the way.

  • In terms of characters, I'd go with Season Two because I don't even remember a good chunk of the characters in Michonne. In terms of story, I'd say Michonne because it was a lot more focused.

Definitely Michonne miniseries. Season 2 was all over the place with it's writing and all the characters were so dull, besides a few and those few died once they were introduced. Namely Pete and Walter. Then there was this interesting dichotomy between Luke and Kenny going on. But out of no where Jane comes, Luke dies (which I couldn't careless about), and now it's Jane vs Kenny within the last few episodes. It just felt so rushed.

Thank you, I though I was the only one who felt that way about that baby. It really annoys me that Clem is now the designated baby mama.

Michonne was far better than Season 2, as was the 100 Days DLC.

    Right now I'd rank them...

    Season 1
    Michonne
    100 Days DLC
    Season 2

Season 2 was the only one of the bunch I found disappointing and boring. On that note I wish Season 2 didn't have Clem as the protagonist, our group was the cast from the 100 Days DLC plus Omid & Christa, and that Nate was the main villain.

  • 100 Days DLC plus Omid & Christa, and that Nate was the main villain.

Eh. What makes you say that?

    Also, what about Clementine?

  • While I liked the idea of S2 a lot, I say Michonne did a lot better in the story it was telling.

  • Am I the only one here felt like Michonne was super weak in every way and season 2 is marginally better?

  • No you're not; I'm the same way. :D

  • I liked that Season 2 was about Clementine but I liked Michonne because she is one of my favorite Walking Dead characters!! However, I feel the characters were better developed in The Michonne Series. Clementine, Kenny, and Luke were the only characters that were truly developed. The rest of the cast seemed to be like the characters on the show that no one really likes or cares about lol :) Also Michonne's fight scenes were pretty cool but could've been just a tiny bit longer! :)

Michonne by a million miles, unlike S2, it had a clear story arc and knew what it was and what it wanted to do and the main character was actually interesting and compelling plus the villains and side characters felt believable in the same way S1 felt believable which was refreshing after the mess that was S2.

  • i would not say season 2 had no clear goal. wellington is name dropped at the start of episode 1. it's just carver side tracked the plot. this is why i think the story picks up more in episode 4 and 5. with carver gone we now have a clear goal and conflict.
