  • It was alright. Short - but alright. I'd give the first episode a solid 7.5/10

  • edited February 2016

I'd rate it 9/10, very solid episode, it's just too short. Graphics are improved, animations are fluid, voice acting is top notch (as always), characters are interesting and realistic (I was actually spooked by the antagonists), music is very climatic, awesome new gameplay mechanics and, of course, Easter Eggs.

Edit: Fuck everything, I'm giving this episode 9/10, it was awesome.

  • There was Banang, 10/10

No but seriously, probably a 9/10 for me. A bit on the short side, but like I said before, it's already got me hooked.

  • I have a general question for those who have played/watched.

How does it compare to the other episodes?

You know, that's honestly a hard question to answer for me. If anything, this episode feels really... unique? Not really like any of the other episodes we've seen so far. But that's just me.

However, I'd say it definitely holds it's own against the rest. I'd say it's a middle or top-tier episode. Definitely not on the low end of the spectrum.

How does the writing compare to Season 1 and Season 2? I'm not one of those people who heavily dislikes Season 2 or anything, but I'm curious anyways just for perspective. No spoilers, please.

  • How have some people already played it? is it out in certain territories?

  • So, how short is short to everyone here?

    90 minutes. (Like Season 2)

  • Oh, well I mean that's just kind of normal length now.

  • Technically for Tales and Thrones, 1:45 or 2 hours was the normal length. Minecraft was in the middle.

Telltale answered this on Twitter saying that it would be enjoyable irregardless of comic/show knowledge. The games only take place in the comics, not in the AMC show.

  • That's not bad, I thought we were talking Minecraft ep 2 and Wolf ep 4

    90 minutes. (Like Season 2)

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought they were being really heavy handed with the themes. Like, I know they only have three episodes to work with, but geez. Hopefully they tone it down a bit for the next two episodes.

I thought the episode was just okay. Not awful, but not super incredible, either. Just average.

  • Would saying this game has a cool ass main menu, and an even cooler ass intro sequence be a spoiler? Because it definitely has both of those.

  • how did you get to play it already?

  • Hey, still not as heavy handed as that damn statue from Amid The Ruins

Hey guys do you get the symbolism yet

it's behind Kenny in this shot

    and this shot too

and here's Jane looking at it

and here's you passing it again

and here's some sweeping camera shots that seem to focus on the statue

and here's it in the background while you're taking to Sarah

here it is in any scene where you're talking to a character going through a rough time

oh and it's also the episode 4 background for the main menu too

and we have a shot that focuses on it during the trailer while Jane's talking about not letting people drag you down, which juxtaposes her view point

do you get it yet guys

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought they were being really heavy handed with the themes. Like, I know they only have three episode

  • Eh, I personally disagree. Just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I can kind of see what you mean, but I don't think it was that heavy handed. Could some things be handled better? Sure, but I don't think it was that ridiculous or overdone. I mean, there's been other scenes across both seasons where they're basically beating you over the head with something (eg Christa being pregnant) that I feel were more obvious than this.

I think it was handled relatively well. But you know, differing opinions and all that, I suppose.

    9/10 walkers fingers.

The movements seem more fluid than in Season 2, and Michonne's dreadlocks move independently. There are a lot of new walker models, even for the background ones. There were not many new music themes; I recognized at least ten from both seasons. There weren't many hub areas in which we could explore, as the episode was around an hour and thirty minutes long. On my opinion, they also improved the overall background of the scenes (with birds, crabs, etc.).

The characters were very interesting. The complete episode has a tone of intrigue, so to speak. My main problem with this episode is that the choices don't seem that important.

I'm sure most of you will like "In Too Deep" once it becomes available, though!

Edit: Forgot to say that the story is presented in a much more cinematic way, and Telltale also improved the quick-time events.

  • How are people playin it already?

  • ok so from what i gather here is that the episode is really short. i'd hope TT had learned from TFTBL and GoT, that longer episodes work better (although some people didnt like GoT much...). well it is just the first episode, who knows about the next two.

i just really hope thye realize that TWDG S3 should have episodes as long as borderlands and GoT had. it just has too. ok maybe those games had longer episodes because of the multiple characters, but still... and i still would like to see multiple characters in S3.

BTW: who is the villian? i thought the villian was someone that Cissy jones voiced, but i looked the launch trailer today and it looks like its some guy. i got a very Carver vibe on him. maybe something they wanted to do with carver...??

  • So i watched a walkthrough And im a little dissapointed. It was Short (around 90mins.) But well paced. But i have One Big problem: the animations. Especially those used during dialogues. I had no Problem with the animations in other TTG, but they Are more stiff here. The Combat Animations are good, But the transitions And cuts between different Camera positions Are my biggest Problem. I mean...it's 2016 And we have Hardwares that can run things like The Witcher 3 And Star Wars Battlefront without Problem. I don't get it. I'm just gonna say it: fuck the Telltale Tool And fuck everyone who thinks it's a good Engine. Telltale will have Problems in the longrun, If they don't update it properly. It's Really sad, Because Telltale has some of the best writers in the Industry, But they limit themselfes by using that piece of shit which isn't even capable of simple Camera transitions. If you can ignore the animations, Then it's a Great Premiere. Btw. The soundtrack is Absolutly Awesome. But i have a question: why doesn't Telltale use a different Engine? I mean like Unreal Engine or Even fucking Unity?

  • Absolutely. I mean it's going to cost money And worktime to get it Done. But it's an Investment they have to do at one point. And im going to predict, that If they don't make improvements in TWDS3, they're in alot of trouble. They talk about Features like Cross-Saves or Twitch implementations, But they can't spare a group of workers to upgrade the engine? Wtf? Its Really frustrating.

  • Michonne episode 1 was way better then all off season 2. not as great as season 1.

However, so called "good" guys you need to sympathise with have done far more bad things than so called "villains" who did not even fo anything bad yet.

Really? I'm really shocked to read that, as I genuinely enjoyed this episode because of all the morally grey areas. I think you in particular need to sympathize more with these good guys, though.

I'd be interested on further discussing this topic with you through PMs.

I thought this episode did a good job with the grey area, too. You're not really given the opportunity to explicitly hate either side, in all honesty. Both sides are telling different stories, and both sides are equally believable, but both sides are made out to be quite capable of the things the other blames them for. They give you enough opportunities to play it how you want between both sides; cooperate or act defiant, etc etc.

    graphics horrible

so i guess that means you don't like the other walking dead games' graphics either? or any other telltale graphics? cause they are pretty much the same from what i have seen if not that just a bit better

3/10: graphics horrible, plot terrible, no need to play

  • No they suck, this is 2016, the graphics from s2 were better than this. Doesn't telltale graphics get better as the years go by. Tftb had beautiful graphics and those were ten times better than thee
