One...I despise the purchase options. You're shooting yourself in the foot with that Telltalle and your just annoying the people would will buy it anyways.

Other than that....it was exactly what I expected it to be....which isnt a bad thing. Nice visual upgrades....but honestly you need to go further with that....same with combat nice changes although I didn't really like the curved movements parts...

However, I get that its a mini series....but the episodes themselves shouldn't be any shorter. This episode felt INSANELY short and it usually takes me a long time to complete any telltalle episodes.....2-3 hours. The runtime for my play was slightly under 90 minutes.

  • 7.5/10 - It was kind of slow to begin with, but picked up like crazy towards the second half. I really like the characters and the stories got me hooked. Can't wait for episode 2!

5/10 for me. It was just average. I don't like the intro, it feels very... un-TWD game-ish. Would've been cool for some other game, just not TWD by Telltale. Not a fan of the song either. It threw me off right away. It feels like belongs in the show, though, but this isn't the show or even the show canon, obviously. For the games, TTG needs to stick to music like Anadel and Alela Diane. I think Reprieve by Anadel would've been an amazing choice for the first episode! It's off their latest album.

"Trouble finds the best of us, and it leads us on

and the days and nights are an endless draw

hold the blade for long enough and the fingers bleed

all we want’s to live, all we want’s a damned reprieve."

Me too. Season 1 and 2 was amazing. But this have the dumbest plot. Where is the old storylyline?

3/10: graphics horrible, plot terrible, no need to play

  • I agree. Samantha's voice actress did a fantastic job! You can read more about her right here.

Hmm...Okay so, this is just my thoughts I thought that this episode is good! Not perfect and great, but I still got a lot of enjoyment ou

  • With no exaggeration, this is tied for my favourite ever Walking Dead Telltale episode with Long Road Ahead.

I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Choices - brilliant. Little extras - brilliant. Voice acting - brilliant. Music - the best we've ever had.

    I can't wait for episode 2!

  • I'm glad you liked it Flog! :)

What was your opinion on the villains?

closed it after 40 mins because i was yawning so hard a 4.7/10 on metacritic pretty much confirms no one gives a damn about TWD game without Clem. NoClemNoBuy

  • 9/10 Loved it. Hope we see the crew again in ep 2

  • You guys are tough customers. Maybe season two did embitter a lot of fans.

  • I think they have a great deal of potential!

Together Norma and Randall seem like they could end up being like what Carver and Troy could have become respectively. So much potential, just hope they continue to be well developed!

    Yourself?

Have you managed to play it yet? If not PLEASE do, I think you'll like it a lot!

  • Norma reminded me of Episode 2 Carver, which is a good thing. I answered her very calmly but you could still feel the tension.

Randall, while in a Troy-esque role, stuck out to me as having more of a personality. I'm not sure how to describe it, but he felt like a bastard, but that kind of bastard you like. He wasn't just that tough asshole figure.

I am interested to see what Telltale does with Randall in the next episode.

  • Hm wow wouldn't go as far as liking Randall himself!

Yep should be interesting! Don't get your hopes up for Randall teaming up with us or something though ;)

ok so from what i gather here is that the episode is really short. i'd hope TT had learned from TFTBL and GoT, that longer episodes work bet

  • Anyway, I give the episode an 8 of 10.

The cons were really just the length and the lack of hubs or exploration. Those weren't even horrible issues. The choices maybe? It's too early to tell though.

The pros definitely start with the intro. Voice acting and character designs are top-notch as always. Excellent, fun, innovative action scenes. Colorful characters. A sure sense of tension with the antagonists. Better graphics, smoother animation, new character models, particles.

  • It'd odd, I'm normally a stickler for length, but this didn't bother me so much. A couple more hubs would have been nice but the episode (and series it seems) was quite fast paced and intense so they may have felt out of place.

If people are tired of the formula now, whats going to happen with season three?

    Why not just PM him?

  • I think he means that in the "love to hate" kind of way, and I would agree with that

Randall's an asshole, but he's the kind of asshole I like hating. Not to mention Derek's been killing it with his lines so far.

I know this ain't exactly the thread for it, but I just noticed that Jay Bonansinga was listed as a story consultant in the credits. If you don't know who that is, he's the author of TWD novel series (Rise of the Governor, Road to Woodbury, etc)

It might also be worth noting that S2 didn't have a story consultant, but S1 did (Gary Whitta). Maybe that can help ease some peoples' minds about the writing/story telling, although if this episode is any indication to me personally, I don't think there's much to worry about to begin with, the story and writing seem in good hands right now.

  • Well I'm glad I'm not alone in having a similar opinion. It isn't vying for my top spot just yet, but I'd say this episode's well within my top five.

  • 7/10 not bad, but it was very short

  • Great game. Been missing the walking dead series ever since season 2 finished. Only issue is the trophies, only bronze for all 3 episodes?? No Platinum is understandable but no silver or gold?? Other than that looking forward to finishing the game!!!

I just finished it and I think its good. It didnt feel especially short to me. I dont know what people are expecting but it fits in fine with the universe the previous two games have created. Im excited to see how the story plays out. I really liked the intro too, the music and how it incorporates the comic scenes.

Only thing is Im not used to playing these games on the PC, always on a console so I died about ten times before I got a handle on the controls lol

The woman who plays Norma, is that the same actress who played the wife from 400 Days that Bonnie killed?

  • edited February 2016

Yep! She's played by Cissy Jones who has voiced Katjaa, Jolene, Linda (bandit), Brie, Dee (wife from 400 Days) and Shel.

I agree, she's a really talented and versatile voice actress. She has also played in Life Is Strange and Firewatch.

I hope no one minds if I just go and copy and paste the spoiler-free review I gave it on tumblr:

So how does it feel playing an established character from the comic book series?

    Turns out, not too bad.

Playing a character like Michonne is an interesting dynamic for a Telltale game. I found myself more often than not choosing silent options because I felt many talking options were unnatural for Michonne. It worked very well. Silence blended into conversation much better than previous titles, so really, “Silence is a valid option”.

Graphics: The animation was too good for it’s own good. What I mean is, the animation and resolution of the character models have surpassed the engine they were built on. Often times fluid animation was stilted because the game couldn’t seem to take it, but maybe it was just my machine. QTEs felt slightly more interactive - if only a little - because of the way prompts were integrated in the action scene instead of feeling like an overlay. But to me it seems that Tales from the Borderlands represented the maximum they could get from their engine, and Michonne tries to do so much with their visuals I think they need an upgrade to keep up.

Characters: Characters were great. I found myself quickly sympathizing (or hating) certain characters, and others with little to no dialogue still have complexity. While the beginning cast didn’t enthrall me, it didn’t take long to stumble across a more interesting cast that will clearly be the focus of the series. I also enjoyed the character designs and voice acting. Derek Phillips, the voice of Mark Jefferson from Life is Strange, plays another antagonist here. I was reluctant - in Life is Strange I was unimpressed with his voice work when he reverted to whispering scheming villain. In Michonne he clearly has better direction to work with, and it works well. But Samira Wiley as Michonne particularly shines, portraying the character perfectly.

Story: The story was… okay. It was a decent foundation for what I believe can be a riveting series, but as it stands it didn’t leave much of an emotional impact on me. We didn’t have a whole lot of time to get attached to any character, and jumping right into a “guilty of a crime you didn’t commit” story with brand new characters didn’t make me invested as much as it made me frustrated. It was also short - a complaint I usually don’t have, but this episode could have benefitted with a few extra minutes of hubs or getting to know other characters.

Soundtrack: AMAZING. Ripped almost straight from my playlist, so I may be biased, but the songs Telltale used here are some of my favorites and they fit the tone well. The art style in the intro scene and the menus (both the starting menu and pause menu) are also AMAZING. I love the extra details Telltale devoted to those simple things. Otherwise, Telltale used some familiar tracks from previous Walking Dead game, which was okay. There were moments I thought the music was too loud or too soft for the scene, but this is a nitpick.

Choices: I actually felt some of the dialogue choices mattered more than actual decisions. There were some big choices sure, but only two I felt had potential for any lasting impact, and since I’m not extremely invested in the story yet, I could only shrug if something went wrong. This might change in future episodes when I’ll have wished I did something else, but for just this episode, it was minimal impact.

The first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne is a good starting point for the series. Potential is the best word I can use to describe it. I love playing Michonne and I’m excited where the story will lead. As it’s own episode, it still had a little room to improve.

    Overall: 7/10

10/10 - I honestly enjoyed every second of it - even the slow parts(which I usually get bored of and tune off xD) I loved the opening and the action sequences, tbh The Walking Dead: Michonne is like a new breath for me, it was so smooth and I liked some of the character development we got(even if it was rather minimal), also it's nice how they represented a homosexual couple fully, my favorite part of Episode 1 is how I couldn't really tell which side was the villain, I could tell who the assholes were though - plus what I love most is that the characters thought rather... logically... and the 'villain' was... reasonable... at least for now. Hopefully we get to interact with characters in this new place.

~Here's to hoping that determinant characters don't die~

  • 7.5/10 for me. The first half was painfully dull (after the title sequence), but the 2nd half is thankfully MUCH better and shows a lot of promise. LOVE the art direction and style they went for with the brilliant title sequence and stylish transitions and QTE's. but the Telltale engine is slowly starting to fall apart...I've never seen it this bad before (painfully long load times, glitchy QTE's, jerky animations). I liked it, but it's probably my least favorite premiere episode in a LONG time. Hopefully episode 2 can keep up the pace the second half brought.

  • Both.

In all honesty I hated it. I didn't want to hate it, and I really was excited for it. I really liked The idea and I was excited to play it but I've played it and it felt like Season Two. There were a few awesome moments, especially the introduction sequence but overall it was disappointing. I will say though I love the voice acting and the combat sequences were pretty cool, but the story was all over the place, the writing wasn't anything special, and it was just a very saddening to see how boring and how much of a let down it was for me. I rate it 5/10. but that's just my opinion.

Edit: I forgot to say the graphics in this episode were fantastic and the animations for the characters were amazing as well, so I guess that's one thing that got right, along with a few other great things.

  • IMHO, it's better than a lot of the episodes in season 2 but nothing to write home about.

I have a general question for those who have played/watched. How does it compare to the other episodes?
