  • I don't know. A 4 or 5 out of 10 for me?

  • edited February 2016

Ok, wow, I've just finished playing this and... I'm amazed. I'm happy to say that Telltale has definitely improved in every way; the graphics, the animations, the facial expressions, the enviroments, the gameplay and part of the soundtrack are all a huge step up from previous games, while keeping the already perfect dialogues, writing and cinematography. Heck, they even included IMAX! I've seen people complain about the length, but it felt just right to me, especially considering the perfect pacing.
Rating? A 9.3 out of 10 for me.

  • It is to me, compared to other Walking Dead episodes that are usually a 9 or even a 10

    8 is not weak.

  • I didn't like it either, but I had valid reasons. Your reasons are ridiculous and you're acting completely edgy and immature with all of your responses to people who disagree purely because you don't have a constructive counter argument. Just don't.

closed it after 40 mins because i was yawning so hard a 4.7/10 on metacritic pretty much confirms no one gives a damn about TWD game without Clem. NoClemNoBuy

  • To be honest, it was kinda meh. The actions sequences were cool and all and I loved the intro, but I didn't really feel for any of the characters except for Michonne (and maybe Pete) and the story didn't seem that interesting to me either. Plus the length of the episode was a bit short. I don't know, I guess I just expected more from it.

    I'd give it 6.5/10

  • I realize this is a mini-series. I just didn't know the individual episodes would also be so short. I think I spent longer walking around in that convenient store in S1 Ep1 of telltales walking dead than I did in this entire episode. Also, I bought the season pass on the psn network but the game keeps asking me to buy it again. You can't buy individual episodes on psn. So why even include that in this version if you're already forced to purchase it outright(Nitpicky I know). Bottom line the episode was way too short. The story was meh. I'll give it a 7/10. Would have been a 6.5/10 but that intro was pretty cool.

  • You hate that statue as much as I hate the pine trees don't you?

There there buddy, just, let it all out T_T

Also don't forget the Episode 4 credits, that son of a bitch was in there too.

I'm sorry I can't leave a chunky review here since I'm coming down with another flu [thanks Dad, you're the best!] so I'll just cut to the point. I was impressed by the improvements, The Walking Dead has definitely picked up since the last season and I enjoyed watching Sialark playing the episode. Really liked those moments on the ferry when you saw all the dead bodies, and this group Michonne and the others are with...can't help feeling if Randy and his sis were out of the way it'd be an easier way of life for that community there, really hoping those two kick the bucket.

Michonne herself is a really interesting character and I was really moved by the daughter stuff. I thought it was clever how the toys her daughters played with were present in a scene later on in the game just before the illusion of her daughters appeared. it took me a while to realize later on the toys must've been an illusion too. Like the stuff with Greg and Sam, totally called it on them being siblings [and that somebody was hiding in that locker >.>] and the banter with Pete was sweet too.

The thing is I don't want to really rate episode by numbers, because I'd rather rate the game as a whole when I do, but as a first episode I am impressed. I'm not too worried about the length because this was supposed to be an add on to Season 2 so that's probably why the episodes are that short. But yeah, overall, I enjoyed it and interested to see where it goes.

  • @Firewallcano Yeah, I can quite see that only with the first episode. You can compare S1's episode 1 with micchone.

    @mrkareemruiz I guess..

It was one episode, I dont think you can compare a whole season with that

I don't know if anyone else can relate to this but, after playing through episode 1, I was a bit disappointed. However, I don't think that's because it was a bad episode. After finishing episode 1 a second time, I liked it a lot more. I think the reason for this is that the first playthrough you do of this you don't know the characters. The next time you play it however, you know everyone and it's a much more entertaining experience.I also enjoyed how the last 15-20 minutes of the episode is very dynamic with a lot of different paths you can go through (not sure how much it will matter in the next episode though.) Overall, it's pretty good, but not as good as I think episodes 2&3 will be.

Finished the 1st episode just now. I rate it.. 6/10? I didn't like the characters very much besides Michonne. I also don't really like the plot and had no problem with my choices throughout the episode. Another thing to add is I thought it to be short, and I don't see much weight to decisions. Things I do like though are the atmosphere we are in, and the music that was chosen in the episode..

I really enjoyed the episode. It has a very slow start, but once we hit the second half, I'm reminded of why I love this series so much.

    9/10 for me.

  • Taking a step back, there was nothing really to make me care about anyone nearly as much as I did like the cast of Season 1 or 2. Michonne was actually kind of likable, which was surprising because I hated her character and actor in the show, but besides her and one other character the entire cast was forgettable. But the new combat mechanics really helped me forget about the story and character issues until I was watching the until next episode cinematic.

The game makes it painstakingly obvious which character you're going to be siding with, doesn't matter if you hate them or not and try to show it, as spoiled by the teaser for the next episode. Not like the game tried to force empathy for X while trying to make Y seem worse than radioactive Hitler snakes. And by that I mean I just loved the main antagonist and despised the one we were supposed to side with. I have a feeling all of our choices are going to mean squat like Nick and there's going to be one ending with two variables. 6/10 wtb more story and gud characters

  • Even though I saw walkthroughs, I give it a solid 8/10.

The characters, the animation and the acting were all top notch. If the remainder of this mini series is just as good, it could take the second place rank in my Walking Dead game scoreboard, with Season 1 at the top, 400 Days third and Season 2 in last.

  • Is anyone on this at the moment? I'm playing at the moment - about how long is episode one? I'm about 30 minutes in.. Hopefully it'll be another 10 hours!

  • It's pretty short.

  • It's a mini series (3 episodes long). Expect 4-6 hours of content. Each episode could be anywhere between 1.5-2.1 Hours. Episode 1 was about 90 minutes though. Hopefully the next episodes are slightly longer

  • 8/10. It was short but sweet.

  • So every other episode was a 9 or 10?

    (5.5/10)

I don't have a problem with it being short since it's a mini-series but I didn't feel for any of the characters and the pacing could be better. The only thing I really liked about episode 1 was the intro. I'm gonna keep watching though to see if it gets better, which I'm sure it will. Telltale always pulls through.

  • 5/10. Honestly, I was bored with a game but I wasn't too disappointed, because my expectations weren't high. It's between season mini series, I don't expect a masterpiece.

The only thing good about the episode is Michonne herself. I still rate it 8/10 because of her.

But man, she is awesome, and very true to her character. I can't rate it badly even if I didn't care that much for everything else in the episode because Michonne is just fantastic.

Now, if it wasn't for Michonne... Well... Maybe it would get a 6 out of 10 at max from me.

The "megalomaniac psycho leader of a community who kills everybody because why not" is getting repetitive.

I am going to be honest in saying that I was disappointed.

    1) On the technical side: I did not like the graphics - it looked a little too airbrushed to me but that is a minor thing compared to the

    2) utterly boring, uninteresting story and characters. Really, I did not give a shit about any of them, including Michonne. We are just thrown into this story mid apocalypse. I didnt care enough for the character to give a shit. We dont get any background on her - it just starts in the middle of the story/her hallucinations.

    3) Definitely not an ensemble cast, so to speak. The other characters were just fillers and the premise for how and why they got in trouble absurd. No character was present long enough for us to care and those we are supposed to care about, I really didnt.

    4) None of the original writing team of Seasons 1 and 2 were in on this, so I am not surprised.

    5) The controls ARE AWFUL: If you wanna kill someone, you just hit E or Q and it is done. You dont have to aim and actually try to point at the walker to kill, you just hit E or Q once. That is lame because you dont have to do anything, you dont have to accomplish anything, just hit a button once.
--> also when you go searching around and the circle that pops to like "look at this shit" or something. Annoying to navigate. What was wrong with how it was done in Seasons 1 and 2. Why do they have to keep changing the controls again and in such a bad way?

    6) Mostly it was boring though. Characters I didnt care about, a boring story arc that I didnt care about, side characters I didnt care about and nothing really happens.

I really hope this is not a preview on Season 3 and how they plan on doing this later on. Really guys, go back to the drawing board and come up with an interesting story and interesting characters and plots and just stuff to do. I was bored out of my mind and because all I had to do was press E or Q to hack off heads, it didnt feel like I was doing it.

    3/10

  • About an 8/10, but honestly this high of a rating is purely for Michonne. I already liked her character, but she's just awesome in this game. Voice acting is great and she feels like such a mystery and character of her own. Even when I make her choices, I feel like I don't know what's going on in her head and it's fascinating. I'd actually venture to say that I'm having more fun with her than any Walking Dead PC to date, as much as I adore Lee and Clementine.

Everything else is....meh. I feel like other than being some weird zombie apocalypse pirate, nothing in this game is breaking new ground. Feels like I've done all this before, and I'm jaded enough with Telltale to know the decisions I make will mean nothing. They barely mean anything in the actual main game, so I know they'll mean nothing in the DLC. And naturally tension is lost because we know that Michonne will be fine and won't even be physically scarred in any way during these events.

Though the new QTEs are easier, they're WAY too easy. There's also no sense of puzzle solving thus far. The other characters are entirely lukewarm, with Pete being maybe the only one I can see coming to care about so far.

Basically I'm excited to play the rest of this just to be Michonne again. Everything else isn't quite catching my interest or leaving me suspenseful in any way. But Michonne makes up for what it lacks so far!

  • Question for you all, am I to understand there are different endings to the first episode?

  • Just finished episode one, and have to admit to being really disappointed. I have to echo what others have said about the graphics, they are a step back without a doubt.
The episode was way too short, and didn't give you a chance to bond with the characters.

Speaking of which, I thought Carver had his face caved in by Kenny. Low and behold he appears again, this time with Mrs Carver.
The controls were dodgy as well, as someone else said why fix something if it isn't broken.

I shall play the other two episodes, just to see what happens to the Carver family. Hopefully, Kenny will turn up to finish the job.

    First impressions though aren't good.

  • I thought it was cool but short st the same time... Episode 2 and 3 is going to be sick... Hopefully.
