Personally I always took the Devil's Playhouse to simply be the universe.
Skunkape, Paiperwaite and Sammun-Mak all show how the toys of power can corrupt.
Episode 1 visison of flaming Max etc suggest Max being corrupted.
The Devils Toybox contains the toys and anyone who has all the toys can do well anything, case and point being most of episode 3 lol

    So in brief:
The Toys corrupt thus making you a Devil.
You play with toys hence where you use them is a Playhouse
You can sue them on the entire universe so that is the Devil's Playhouse.

You can sue the toys of power? Where do I do that?

    Typical American.

I think he was more taking the piss out of the typo.

    -_- I know he was.
  • edited July 2010
Still stupid as it was obviously typo and not even a major one.

Why do people do this? Instead of asking questions they turn this into a speculation thread, so when somebody has a genuine question to ask it's never answered because it's been buried in all these other posts

While I'm agree with you, I guess Mr. Stemmle now can laugh about how wrong we are (I hope)

Will any character that has shown up in another Sam and Max universe but NOT this one appear?
  • edited July 2010
Well I think (girl) Stinky is actually dating Satan, which will be the villan on the last episode making a comeback from the cliffhanger of season 2 and following the tradition on S&M games of tying up the episodes together in the end, not to mention the seasons name The DEVILS toybox.

    Sometimes a title's just a title.

I think people are thinking too much into that...

Anybody else want to see a hallway full of fetal Sams and/or Maxs in grow tubes?

    That's creepy.

    I like it.

That was my dream last night, along with a neat fractal Max, but it was 305 not 4. Also, I probably need better sleep.

That was also slightly what I was thinking... or even more shocking... dating Agent Superball. But I don't think it'll be Sal.

Just to let you know, with this season TTG tries to not make it so connected to the previous seasons, as I once heard in an interview. I don't expect Satan to come back at the season finale AGAIN, however.

Is Superball now being theorized as some sort of golem?

    Not yet.

    - A character who hasn't been seen this season will return.

Hugh Bliss. Right? Right? Please? Right?

Seconding the notion that those Sams are somehow related to Anubis. I've had my suspicions ever since playing the episode, and there was some discussion on the matter over on the Speculation Thread.

Then again, I just really want one of my crackpot theories to be true :D

1.What role will skunkape and paperwait have in this episode?
One expected role, one unexpected, not necessarily in that order.
2.will max be able to use the toys of power maximus could use(minus astral projection of course)
Innnnnteresting question. And who said we'll never be using astral projection again?
3.Will we get to abuse more of the foreign guy.
He was the last guy cut from this episode :(

Is this the episode where we find out how the power core and Carol the scanner came to be amongst the rubbish in the sewer? I distinctly remember Max asking Sam how the power core came to be down there and instead of saying "that's not important" or "that's for another time, little buddy", he definitely said "that's for another episode".

Answers (of a sort) will be coming in the fifth episode. Promise.

Mike: Are those really Sam clones or are they of a different nature (time travel duplicates, relatives, aliens that happen to look like Sam, shapeshifters, etc...)?

That's a very good question. It's answered after the first act.

    Hey all,

Sorry I've been out of touch for the past couple o' days, but I've been a little busy fixing some hint bugs for episode five, churning out a few pickup lines for Sam, and taking meetings down at Universal for the Other Game with the Cool Car that Starts with a "De."

I'll now pause for a second while you collectively play Vivaldi's Concerto for the World's Tiniest Violins in D Minor...

Now that you're mentally back, here's the title card for episode 4, the first of a few pieces of teaser art we'll be trickling out this week.

Are we ever going to find out what the Devil's Playhouse is? Or is that just the name of the season, and has no influence on the series at large?

I can guarantee that you will discover what the Devil's Playhouse is by the end of the season.

I mean, aside from the allusion to those beloved old television shows...

You have not revealed the answer to my question, yet enticed me so much more to learn the answer. Expertly handled!

And I believe that is my favorite title card so far! Extra stylish.

I try never to laugh at people who keep my babies fed. It just seems like a bad policy.

That said, a few of your guesses are uncomfortably close, which I'll choose to attribute to our clever foreshadowing rather than our butt-simple plotting.

I need a high res version of that. Seriously.

    Fair Enough.

If you can tell it in a good way, I'll not mind either option. I enjoyed even simpler plots just because that those were handle it right. And, for the moment, I'm not dissappointed by the slightest.

Either his sons are like, 7, or we're going to have to invent T 15+ for this

Unless those pick-up lines are REALLY dirty.

There is no smiley large enough to express the magnitude of the mental raspberry I'm sending your way. Feel free to use your imagination.

(Also, it could be part of a ruse on Sam's part. It proves nothing, I tell you! Nothing! And you did not notice me visibly shift in my seat once Mike mentioned the pickup lines. Nuh-uh. Nooope.)

Agreed. Simple or complex, execution is still key. And unless or until most (as opposed to a few) people get uncomfortably close with their guesses, I wouldn't worry a whole lot about the plotting starting to show too much of its hand. :)

Questions ... hmm. I can't think of much I'd want to know about before playing the episode -- I thrive on surprises and mindless speculation! -- buuuuut there's one thing I've been wondering about: Stinky's ability to hear the Alien Brain in 301. Throwaway gag, or something more? Or something that doesn't matter anyway since that timeline no longer exists?
  • edited July 2010
So I take it I was the only one that read "pick-up lines" as a production term meaning extra dialog that they can insert where needed? I guess my mind isn't as dirty as I thought.
  • edited July 2010
That or it was defense mechanism because your subconscious is excessively dirty.
I can guarantee that you will discover what the Devil's Playhouse is by the end of the season.

If it ends up being inside Max's mind I'll love Telltale for all eternity. If not, a few days short of eternity.
