New Lucas Arts announcement on Monday

From their Twitt0r

Amazing news coming Monday! Super excited! You have no idea how tough it is not to start yelling about it! But it's secret! Until Monday!

Okay, we will do hints. It is awesome news for our old school fans. (anything more direct might get me in trouble)

It doesn't have to do with any specific intellectual property...

Discuss. ;)

Back to adventure gaming  ?
What with their re releasing of secret of monkey island, it's safe to assume so. Maybe it's gonna be another remake tho...
If they ARE making a new full throttle, day of the tentacle or whatever, i sure hope they do it right... Even on their star wars games lucasarts keeps fucking up since a few years... But hey, it(d still would be great to see them going back to what made 'em great.

Remakes of ALL the old SCUMM games!!! ;)

The fact that "it's awesome news for old school fans" already has me excited.

Could be a remake. Could be a sequel. Augh, the anticipation!!

    Well they then said this

I know this is something I was asking for since before I worked at LucasArts.

It doesn't have to do with any specific intellectual property.

This has stumped me,if its old school related and not IP related then what the heck is it???

Guess will know on Monday (Please let it not be Star Wars related)

    Wow.... I'm excited! :)

I hope they're being misleading saying that it has nothing to do with specific IP, and it's going to be the second part of the Loom trilogy.

Looks like its the SMI:SE release date announcement according to a Lucasarts Staff member on their forums.

After talk of a release date...

"Monday you'll get the announcement. It's a big one, trust me, you'll be happy"

Then this comment wouldn't make sense:

Perhaps they're opening a new studio completely dedicated to adventure games ( a man can hope ;) )

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy ohboyohboyohboy...

    He also says this...
I hope I don't disappoint. I know this is something I was asking for since before I worked at LucasArts.

I think it might be something like "We're putting all of our old adventure games in Steam"... SoMI: SE is pretty much confirmed to be released on the 15th.

They're hiring Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Bill Tiller, Steve Purcell and Peter Chan as the new presidents of LucasArts, with all of Lucasfilm's money as their budget to make whatever games they would like to.

That would blow my mind  whose Peter Chan though?

A LucasArts artist that worked on nearly every of their adventure games (for example he colorized the background drawings Steve Purcell did for "Monkey Island 2")... and he painted this beauty:

    An idea...

As they ported SCUMM to the Xbox360 already for the Second Edition of Monkey Island (and the Wii with Indiana Jones as well?). How about that they finally simply plan to rerelase all the SCUMM content this way?! This might happen in an "as is" or a "special edition" way.
  • edited July 2009
My closest guess, yes.... probably no-SE versions.
  • edited July 2009
I really would welcome SE versions if they would be, contrary to TSOMI, well done. I don't know how i would react, if Boston Low get's a similar haircut as Guybrush or Maggie shows up in the press conference in a 80s popper style.

I'm curious, does anybody at TTG no what this could possibly be in reference to? Probably not...

Remakes of ALL the old SCUMM games!!! ;)

The remake of just one of them is bad enough!
  • edited July 2009
Hmmm... I know what it is!!! Howard the Duck the video game! How much more old-school can you be?
  • edited July 2009
    yes and no...
I do find it kinda useless, cause to me, the original game is and always will be more than enough.
But it's still great news because it means they're getting interested again in adventure games. They're probably not sure if it will sell or not, which i guess i why they're starting by those remakes (face it : show any kid of these days a screenshot from the first two episodes and he'll never want to play it. Hell, some friends of mine never did even tho i yelled at them to do so for years...)
I'm guessing the success Telltale has had with their games (mostly the Sam & Max series) made em think that MAYBE they can raise some bucks on that stuff after all.. So you can argue on the art style of this first remake (i don't like it either), i still think it's great and mostly hope the damn thing sells well. Hell, i might even buy it just in hope that if they're satisfied they'll start doing what they've been so good at again

As for the anouncement, i just don't know... Wait and see. I do hope they'll announce something new instead of a bunch of remakes, but even the remakes would be good news to me. Not great yet, but still good...
(If it's star wars related, then the ONLY one i'd like would be a new x wing game :D)
  • edited July 2009
I never got to buy any adventure games (I wasn't even alive when they were popular) so I'm SUPER excited about this!

Note: I have two adventure games not made by telltale: Freddi Fish 4 and 5.

    you're kidding. i hope.
  • edited July 2009
Has anyone thought of the possibility that the announcement might not be adventure game related at all? I hope I'm wrong but let's not get carried away just yet.
  • edited July 2009
well.. It doesn't technically ascertain anything, but the "old school fans are gonna love this" line does allow us some hope...
I mean, they ain't known fur much more than the star wars licence and adventure gaming, are they ? And annoucning yet another SW game ain't ground breaking news in my book...
But oh well, once again, wait & see ;)
  • edited July 2009
Last time lucasarts used the term "old school" was for FOA in the new Indy game. So It's pretty much certain that it's an adventure game.
  • edited July 2009
    They've just posted this which is making more guesses on what it could be;

I did say nothing to do with new IP people! Keep guessing though. I might have to retweet the guy who figures it out...

I don't like when they pre-announce announcements. They should either announce it then or keep their mouth shut until they're ready to announce it :<
  • edited July 2009
    me neither, this is cruel.
    weekend ruined!
  • edited July 2009
I think the simple answer is they're making a new adventure game that isn't a sequel or a remake or they're opening a whole new studio FOR adventure games. Either one.

And how could you ever say the weekend is ruined? This is great news, we can suffer two days for it - whatever it is we'll love it.

Man, that just got me thinking of the old Mortal Kombat games. A fighting game similar to that involving the classic LA characters could be fairly awesome - all done in super slick cel shading rendering style or something. Even better looking than the new Street Fighter game. And sporting finishing moves that involve throwing hilarious one liners around.

    You fight like a cow!

    Drop dead you scumback!

    Arrr harr harr harrr!

    I am your brother!

    Hands off my hamster, chick!

And so on, and so on.

I don't think I'd like that. I'd like as many separate successful studios making games as possible - that'd be more games to play.

    I don't think that's it though - I don't know how that'd "excite old fans."
  • edited July 2009
I'm guessing this is some kind of compilation release on PC or consoles... but then that wouldn't make sense for possible future special edition versions. Huh, I don't know.
