Ah, nonsense... Telltale doesn't have to put up with LucasArts... they just... umh... license their IPs and become rich enough to stay independent.
  • edited July 2009
I'm guessing this is some kind of compilation release on PC or consoles... but then that wouldn't make sense for possible future special edition versions. Huh, I don't know.
The sad thing is that I wouldn't even be excited about something like this because of Scummvm. I don't know why a re-release of games I already own would excite old fans...

Downloadable XP / Vista compatible LucasArts classics direct from the Star Wars store, surely?

    And xbox live / Wiiware / PS3-whatever- it's-called too?
  • edited July 2009
That'd be a good sign for the SE - then they wouldn't need Steam which'd turn some people off.

    1. It is awesome news for our old school fans

Nope, he said it doesn't involve an old or new IP.
  • edited July 2009
My guess is ports of all/some of the classic SCUMM games to the DS and/or iPhone.

These plaforms are perfect for the genre and are a bit more forgiving on graphics. i.e. the wont have to make HD graphics.

Essentially doing what ScummVM has done but officailly, so they make some cash from it.

Apparently Apple wont let anyone announce games before they are live, so we might be getting DOTT on the iphone tomorrow!!!
Nope, he said it doesn't involve an old or new IP.

Does he say no specific IP, therefore its many old IPs. In fact, the Scumm engine itself..

    From their Twitt0r

Amazing news coming Monday! Super excited! You have no idea how tough it is not to start yelling about it! But it's secret! Until Monday!

Okay, we will do hints. It is awesome news for our old school fans. (anything more direct might get me in trouble)

It doesn't have to do with any specific intellectual property...

    Discuss. ;)

Issue 15 of The Adventurer is finally coming out?!

I got a question whats Steam?

Also i cant wait for the release of the special Edition. The announcement of 2 games have made me play all 4 games of Monkey Island.

Im hoping this new announcement is to set a release date for special edition and to release new adventure games like they did with Grim Fandango.

    i bloody love announcements :)

New MI, a remake of MI1 and both Tim schafer and Ron gilbert having new games coming out and now this mystery announcment! We are truly living in the best of times gentlemen!
  • edited July 2009
    ...I'm stumped. Seriously stumped.

Their own distribution platform for digital downloads is my guess, with story-based games as the focus? Along with Vista-compatible versions of old titles like TIE Fighter, with Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition being the first item in the new digital store.

    The Adventure Street!

I'm calling right now that this announcement has something to do with the ORIGINAL older games; in other words, I think Lucasarts will put back on the shelf every single old adventure title they sold in the past; all the original versions. That's my speculation on it. Everything from Zac McKraken to Grim Fandango.

Who says this announcement is about something NEW?
  • edited July 2009
Maybe they are just gonna sell all their old games on the lucasarts web site.

Well, yeah; that's what I meant by "put back on the shelf", but I guess I could've phrased that differently. I forget that that saying generally isn't associated with online stores.

    I dunno...
You'd think "old school fans" already own therse games anyway, wouldn't you ?
So why being able to buy them again would be such good news to these ?
But hey, we'll know tomorow anyway :)

That'd be pretty cool. :D (with The Dig included of course!)

Well, the day is finally here! Now it's only a matter of hours...

Ummm, I have played many of the games listed above. I remember Day of the Tentacle NOT being Full-Talkie, just the intro had voices. Is this true, or have I just discovered that there actually is a FULL-talkie version of the game?

The CD-version if full talkie... the floppy-version only has voices in the intro (the same goes for "Hit the Road").

Lucasarts have confirmed on Twitter that someone has exactly guessed the announcment... (I think it's me!*)

I don't use twitter much, it won't seem to let me see all the messages sent to them. Can anyone do this?

*There is no basis for this theory.
  • edited July 2009
I reckon it's just going to be all the old games coming to Xbox Live or something along those lines. I *actually* hope it's a new DOTT related game but I very much doubt it...

Off topic... is it just me that thinks the kid at the top of this page looks like Daniel Radcliffe?

just think they will look too low-res on a 1080p TV to make it worthwile. DS / iPhone on the other hand would be perfect.

Can someone post the announcement here when its announced?

That's true. It could be another SE-MI then?

If it's a new SCUMM-based adventure game for DS I'll be VERY happy... if it's just an old game ported I'll be moderately pleased.
  • edited July 2009
whatever it is, I'm sure I'll be disappointed.

    SOMI SE for IPhone...

    Just got a feeling...
  • edited July 2009
They did say in an SOMI:SE interview recently that a new format announcement was / might be happening soon. (Surely iPhone / DS)

But reading between the lines of the twitter posts:

Not a specific IP - (Rules out just MI or a sequel to just one game?)
Not a new IP - (Suggests multiple IPs, essentailly the Scumm engine itself with lots of games)

LucasArts would be crazy not to bring the games out for these platforms seeing as lots of people are playing them already through ScummVM.
  • edited July 2009
True. Though a lot of people speculated a release of SOMI SE is due for the Wii, to coincide with Tales.

I hope it's more of an announcement of a Classic Label line-up, releasing all the Old Classics for a new generation, remastering them (since Ol George likes remastering things. ;) ) and bringing them to new systems, such as the Live Arcade, DS and Wii Ware and PSN.

Though, seeing as how SOMI SE isn't even out yet, and they did say more may come if the interest is there, then I'm not banking my chips just yet. Unless they're basing an announcement on interest in pre-ordering. *shrug*

(I hope they haven't made the announcement before I make this post. I didn't see it anywhere.)

My guess would be that they are releasing the old catalog of games on Good Old Games. Unless, of course, no one has suggested it on the twitter feed that supposedly has the correct guess on it (which I haven't read the responses).
