(I hope they haven't made the announcement before I make this post. I didn't see it anywhere.)
My guess would be that they are releasing the old catalog of games on Good Old Games. Unless, of course, no one has suggested it on the twitter feed that supposedly has the correct guess on it (which I haven't read the responses).
I didn't see it, but there were quite a lot so may have missed.
yep i am guessing its the lucasarts classic adventure games all released on XBLA, PSN and PC via downloads, maybe SE versions as well!
oh and maybe iphone versions too
In that case, I'd wish them good luck on both getting Tim Schafer to co-operate AND manage to come up with a continuation for it. : S
EDIT: Okay, not gonna be harsh here. But as little as I think a Grim Fandango sequel could work, I would love to return to that world someday. I think I fell in love with the visual style of all the clothed skeletons and their dark lifestyles. XD

Last time lucasarts used the term "old school" was for FOA in the new Indy game. So It's pretty much certain that it's an adventure game.
It just seems like people are setting themselves up for a fall, here. They have said that they won't release a disk version of SMI:SE (ie, opposed to a version that is simply downloaded) until they see how well it's received over the internet and I've heard it said (though I don't know if it was LucasArts who said it or not) that they also won't be releasing 'LeChuck's Revenge' until they seen those results, either.
Baring that in mind, do you imagine them resuming their production of any other adventure games before they see how this particular re-release performs on the market?
Maybe they are just gonna sell all their old games on the lucasarts web site.
this was my guess too. I doubt it would be limited to adventure games.
Where he says "It doesn't have to do with any specific intellectual property..." suggests to me that their either working on a completely new title that would appeal to 'old school' fans (which might suggest new adventure games, but I find this unlikely at this point in time) or it's not something to to do with "specific" IP and therefore something to do with a wide range of IPs.
Hmmmm... No. If it was just ports I doubt he would have seemed so excited or felt the need for such secrecy.
Hmmm... yes. Ports of existing games to new platforms (iPhone / DS) is a lot more exciting than just releasing them all on PC again via Steam or something, surely? How is that exciting for the hardcore fans who will already have them?
The DS community specifically has been clamouring for offical LucasArts ports since its release.
I really don't think its going to be a new game of any kind.
I was guessing some point-and-click-ish Indiana Jones game, actually. o.o
I don't know how many games are left if you exclude those made by Tim Schafer and those recently used by Telltale.

They also said NO NEW IP.
No, they said no specific IP. There's a world of differance.
And I know a lot of people won't be excited if they're opening some online shop for people to download classic titles (or even a venue for people to download them for free) when they already have ScummVM but not everybody is aware of this programme.
Not everybody is going to be excited about the same thing. Some people at the company will be very excited for a way of making money off old games because it's a way to increase their revenue with minimal expenditure (the most they'll probably have to pay are royalties for anybody who owns, or partially owns, IPs who are now outside the company).
Some customers might be excited to own 'official' versions of games that are no longer possible to buy new.
Personally I wasn't aware that a lot of people have "been clamouring for offical LucasArts ports since its release".

I appreciate the difference, they have said both things.
"I did say nothing to do with new IP people! Keep guessing though. I might have to retweet the guy who figures it out..."

Are you involved much in the DS community? Or iPhone?
Why do I love this idea...? It's completely ridiculous, but I love it.
Then perhaps you'd like to invest in my other game concept: "Ephram, Why Your Head Is Taste Like Wax?". It is a second-person shooter in which you quest to discover why Ephram's head tastes like wax.
I guarantee you, Mr. Pants, it will be game of the year for the next decade.
I gotta say it screw Iphone / Ds and all handhelds, i couldn care less, i Want some more remakes of the classics for PC. Who in their right mind plays game on a handheld with so inferior little screen and bad sounds, no way!!.

Come on Dott:se or Hit the road:se
It's each to their own. The iPhone app market is huge and growing rapidly. I couldn't really care about digital re-releases (except possibly for encouraging LA to make new games) as I have them all.
Haven't they already said they will wait to see how SMI:SE does before thinking about updating other games?

Im thinking on buying SMI:SE since i prefer a copy of the game as a dvd than a software i downloaded and having keeping me some space from my hard disk. This is the issue i have with MI5. But atleast they will eventually release a copy of the full game.
yeah, if they've got to keep making star wars games, at least let em make good ones again... A new x wing game would be sweet indeed... except that they'd probably set it in the new trilogy and that would just suck
Okay, whatever, just ranting. Let em bring the real goodies back.
some think its one of the old Atari 2600 games cause they just stated their going through 2600 emails so everyone jumped up and thought that was a clue.
They're just trying to steal some spotlight from TTG. LA is an evil coorporation. They used to be heroes, nowadays they're just a washed up alcoholic who scratches cars with keys just for the sake of destroying for others.

I own a DS. Does that count?
Saying that I wasn't aware of it was my way of saying "I don't know enough about that to judge the accuracy of your statement, but I am a tiny bit surprised". It wasn't supposed an argument or a counter-argument of any kind.
"I did say nothing to do with new IP people! Keep guessing though. I might have to retweet the guy who figures it out..."
And I wasn't really to know that, I was only going on the quoted message at the beginning. (I'm not a member of 'Twitter' and have no intention of becoming one. This is why I asked for updates on this news in this thread, being that now is the day that the announcement in question is supposed to be made).
I have to ask, because it seems implied by the tone of your posts, have I said or done something that particularly offended you, Mr Gibbon? If so then I apologise.

ok then........what do you think its gonna be?

"tough it is not to start yelling about it! But it's secret! Until Monday!"
It's monday now (or so I've been lead to believe)... anybody got an update on this historic announcement?
Yeah! This is pure torture...
Maybe he will release the news when he arrives?

LucasArts fighters? XD

Every year, even?
I TAKE IT!

Ack. Anyone remember Masters of Teräs Käsi?
Im thinking on buying SMI:SE since i prefer a copy of the game as a dvd than a software i downloaded and having keeping me some space from my hard disk. This is the issue i have with MI5. But atleast they will eventually release a copy of the full game.
Just saying. Calm down.
... and I would actually buy it.
Just because it's a hilarious idea.
Okay, whatever, just ranting. Let em bring the real goodies back.
Or, more likely, it was a joke.
I never played that game. The title scared me away. : S
