As I said before...Steam is the future and even Lucasarts have jumped on board. YESSSSSSS!
Steam is A future, not THE future. I'd personally be extremely distraught if Steam were the only possible platform of release when it came to PC games, I'd rather not be locked into MSRP because there is no other place to buy PC games. I'd also rather not see Steam wiped off the internet, I have no VENDETTA against it, I'm just wary about tying my purchases to that platform exclusively.
But in all fiarness, I know some of you dont like Steam and I am pretty sure that they are releasing on Direct 2 Drive and Stardock as well, so at least you have a choice.
I actually have never used Direct2Drive or Stardock, mostly because I can't figure out how their activations work.
Anyway, I don't find this announcement particularly exciting. GoG, yes, but Steam? I just don't see it as the best release platform for this sort of thing. Not to mention that, without enhancements, I don't see why I should drop my original versions that I already own...

Second. However, this will give me a chance to legally own some of the adventure games that I never got to buy. Also, if this version of LOOM has the close-ups in it I may consider downloading it (depending on the price).

From what they announced, it will be the cd version of Loom (so shortened dialogue and no close ups).
A friend of mine said that on the new LECSteam Twitter (created as a result of the recent rereleases) had an update stating that an MI2 Special Edition was slated for an August 25th release. But they removed it! Premature news release? Sadly, I don't have any evidence other than his word but I have no reason to doubt him. I'm just hoping it's true. Maybe they're waiting to see how the Steam games and SMI:SE do first...
An updated LeChuck's Revenge could be very very good or pretty bad. LeChuck's Revenge is...pretty goddamn perfect when it comes to atmosphere, and it could be pretty easy to screw that all up with a shoddy treatment.

The fact that MI2 wasn't released in the first wave (what with all of the Monkey Island publicity) is enough evidence for me that they are seriously considering an SE. Same with Hit the Road.

Perhaps, but it was always the same issue with SMI:SE, and they'd still allow you to switch between the old and new versions with ease. I'm not worried about that.
What with the release of Chapter 1 of Tales I don't know if anyone has mentioned that the Lucas Arts games are up on Steam now. And very reasonably priced to I feel - The Dig, Loom, Last Crusade & Fate of Atlantis all £2.99. From that I would guess the US price to be $5 each. But that would probably mean they're €5 for our friends in the Euro zone. But I could be wrong, I only have the British Sterling prices to go on.
Here we go with Lucasarts again trying to jump on some kinda bandwagon...
Old games on steam? No updating being done to them? Yeah... great.. *cough*
Not like I didn't have access to these games before... Ah well, hope Telltale at least delivers with ToMI, ep.1 was looking very promising albeit short.

They've never owned Sam & Max, it's always been Steve Purcell's ip (as he created them before he joined Lucasfilm/LucasArts).
So they could if Purcell allowed them to.
At least, that is my reckoning.
I don't think they could make a new Sam & Max name (especially since that's Telltale's territory now). But I don't see how they couldn't remake that game considering I would assume they still own the rights to that game. However, this may be considered a "new game" instead of a re-release.
Well it would be in both Telltales and Lucas Arts interest to get more of the old classics on steam and other digital platforms, who says no to earn more money from old IP and please fans ?
I know my old Sam & Max Hit The Road cd is awfully full of scratches from years and years of use
so i would mind having it on Steam that is for sure.
They should give TTG the rights to rerelease Hit the Road themselves, what with the already-present teamwork relations with LA and the rereleases of old SCUMM games.
Other than that, I notice they're leaving out MM (which is inside DOTT anyway), Zak McKracken, and the other Monkey Island games....

Are they even allowed to touch Sam and Max now?

Suspicious

Interesting shortcuts outside Steam...

LucasArts games on Steam, which you already guessed.
Some reason I thought this was something new after that announcement.
Apparently not. In this concept, they replaced the Sam & Max idol with one of purple tentacle.
