yeah lucas arts should make 2 patches one for the xbox 360 version for the missing imuse and a second one for all the version for the intro that is missing not that they wanted it but for fault

+ more time for some puzzles (stan, lechuck, spit contest)
+ syncing some stuff (bone song, rapp scallion)

@mermaid: didn't have that problem (xbox) or didn't notice (played through in 2 sessions or so)

They should have had a trophy for going through all the colors with Herman.

Anyone here that bought the game from Direct2Drive? I haven't bought it yet, and I'd rather not buy it from Steam, and it doesn't look like the Telltale store will be uploading it anytime soon.

How does the D2D version work? Can you play it as is, or do you need to log in to a D2D account every time? And what about the DRM, any particular problems with that or is it as smooth and easy like with TTG games?

I'm of the paranoid kind; I don't like making online purchases all over the place without the proper research. :p
  • edited July 2010
You need to log in to D2d every time to download it, but thats about it. I hated using D2D, but I'm a diehard Steam user, and prefer having it right there every day where I can reinstall it at whim instead of having to redownload it every time.

Does I have to play " The Secret of Monkey Island " to play this ?

No, the program will run even without you having played Secret. ;)

Seriously, you don't have to, it helps though and you miss a lot if you don't. Guybrush gives somewhat of a summary of his first adventure at the beginning of LeChuck's Revenge though.

okay, I have another question here

    Steam sucks!
  • edited July 2010
Why? What don't you like about it?

    You suck.

Hey, it's just as valid as your comment without a valid explanation as to why.
  • edited July 2010
Because, I'm afraid of change. I think I might be actually. No CD, some web site I have to pay for...I have to download it...eck.

I have to make an account or some nonsense...I just don't like it. I don't like it!
  • edited July 2010
That doesn't mean it sucks. It's incredibly convenient, actually. Just say it's not for you rather than flat out spew out that it sucks. It doesn't deserve that. The great people behind Steam (Valve) don't deserve that.

I want to play the game though. It's outrageous that Steam is the only way I get to do that.

Yeah except you don't have to pay for Steam. Direct2Drive is the same, only you have to go to their website over and over and redownload it every time to install it. Steam automatically downloads and installs it when you want, as well as the fact you get additional content such as achievements on Steam, plus a list of how many hours you've played plus your gaming stats. Most of Valve's games also require Steam to be installed to be played if I recall right, and all of their games are worth that. And while I would love to have a CD for the games, Steam is so convenient and so seamless to use that I actually think I prefer gaming on it to having to go pick up a CD and pop it in every time I want to play a game. Perhaps I'm lazy. I dunno.

It's not. I already told you that you can get it from Direct2Drive as well. Which doesn't require online activation, AFAIK. You can back it up on a DVD and install it whenever you want without the internet.

With Direct2Drive you only pay for the content.

Err, no different from installing any game, you download the installer, you can burn it onto a CD if the idea that some time in the future you may need to reinstall it and you don't have access to the place you saved it to or the internet, You get a licence key from the website and you install and play.

Plus you can see what games your friends are playing, and jump straight into their current server in online games.

Am I the only person on Earth that actually prefer downloading games instead of going to a store or waiting the mail to deliver a CD which has the risk of scratching and fail forever?

EDIT: I'm also the only person on Earth that likes Escape as the favorite MI game.

PC Games, no, I'm happy to download them, Console games, Yes, I want to own them, I do not trust consoles these days with Digital Distribution, seeing as how support can be dropped at any point as both Microsoft and Sony pleases, I don't really wanna spend a couple of hundred pounds on games via DD on Consoles only to find that in 5 or 10 years time I can't play them anymore as the servers/licence/etc have expired.

Music, I will always buy the physical form, due to quality on that one.

you know dvds and cds stop working after ca. 50 years?

I definitely prefer downloads to discs for PC games. That probably has a lot to do with the fact that every computer I've ever owned has had its CD drive wear out

I prefer Digital over physical copies too (although i prefer to have both, like they do here). It's just more convenient to have all your games accessible at once, so i can hop from game to game without leaving my bed. Although i do like to flick through instruction booklets, and read boxes, and admire boxart.

Also, Escape is currently my favourite MI game. Curse was, but i've overplayed it. (i reckon i've heard pretty much all the lines of dialogue in it now!). Secret and Lechucks revenge just don't seem as funny to me the latter games. Escape for me also has a sense of nostalgia attatched to it, that only curse can match. Plus, i hadn't played it in years, so it seems fresh, and yet so familiar.

I prefer to have a physical copy, mostly because I don't want to have to go find the site, redownload and then reinstall if my pc screws up. And being a windows pc, that happens a lot.

    Oh, update on my issue

Got the game running by updating my graphics drivers... then saved and went to bed. Tried to load today and hey, it's not loading again! Well, it IS loading but I have no guybrush and no cursor... arghhhhh.
I'm going to reboot after reinstalling drivers AGAIN, but honestly, i'm getting a little bit pissed off at how glitchy and bug ridden this is. There's no excuse Lucasarts, there really isn't.
  • edited July 2010
just got the furthest I've ever got in starting it. I got a blank screen, then a crash rather than just a crash.

Then I started it again and got the intro and then a blank screen.

    Wow.

omg, what is up with the bone song? my ears!! i loved that part in the original version :(

Here's a re-synced version, if that was your major concern.
  • edited July 2010
Just so everyone is aware, the sync-ed version can never be patched or mixed into the song since the lyrics are different every time you play.

Was anyone able to do the root beer joke with LeChuck? At first i thought i wasnt quickly enough (since it's a common bug in this version) but im starting to belive it's not in the game at all.

I couldnt even on classic mode but I remember even on original I had a hell of a time trying it
  • edited July 2010
It's because it defaults to "Give root beer to LeChuck" rather than "Use root beer with LeChuck"

Exactly. Which means it can be done in Classic Mode. I switched just to use the "Use" verb and immediately went back to SE to see it.

You can also still use the keyboard shortcuts for the 9 verbs in SE mode, so just pressing U should do it too.

I tried that, but I don't think it works with inventory items. When you click on one of them it's a specific action taken.
  • edited July 2010
yea you can't do different verbs within the inventory. chalk it up as another thing to be patched :)
  • edited July 2010
I got it running again. Looks like i'll have to reinstall my graphics driver and reboot EVERY TIME.. wth? How does that even make sense?

And oh god... bone song... the singing... the singing... *twitch*

Took me a few goes to cheat at spitting though.. DAMN people move fast. I switched into classic mode for that bit lol.

Back to physical copies... there's something epic about opening a box and shuffling through a massive amount of disks lol. I miss creative manuals as well, like the old lucasarts ones that had the in character walkthroughs. I also love getting "feelies" with my games. I still have my Creatures 2 Norn plushie, and all the posters and all that sort of thing. Feelies are awesome.

it was more the singing *Shudder*
i think i'll just switch to classic mode for that part

Yeah, I love physical copies. I have the original big box of 'The Curse Of Monkey Island' and is not comparable wit a digital release, even if it includes wallpapers, pdf manual or artwork.

Oh, and speaking of big boxes. Someone is offering a copy of the big boxed Escape From Monkey Island in Spanish (my languaje) for 40€. What do you think? Is not sealed. So used, but in perfect condition.
