Yea I see what you mean but even though its not completly better, I think they fixed a few areas that were much worse, I remember a few areas that just sounded like crackling that seem to be fixed now.

The tracks fixed are in Patch.xwb. Specifically it's the bone song, LeChuck's appearance in Guybrush's dream (Classic mode) and Classic Mode Chester that have been fixed.

what was the problem with classic mode Chester?

Ok, just had a quick look...

YES! THE BONE SONG HAS BEEN FIXED!!!! :D :D XD Now it's just as awesome as the classic version!

Ok, so I just had a little look, and here's what I noticed:
-The intro has been added, but only to classic mode, switch to SE and it skips straight to Scabb Island in both versions.
-The mouse speed appears to have been slowed down.
-Audio Cross-fading has been added when transitioning between the long-shot and close up of the Scabb Island gravestones.
-The Bone Song has been re-synced (!!!)
-The Dinky Island Jungle now has the music playing.
-Classic Chester's voice has been made louder (wasn't very audible in the original version).
-LeChuck now gives you more time to give him the handkerchief. (Didn't try out other timed puzzles, but I assume they're fixed too.)
-You cannot switch to classic mode once the credits (from Big Whoop) have started. I noticed on my last playthrough that the credits in classic mode (in Big Whoop) were changed to suit the special edition. Good to see they've sorted that out to avoid any confusion.
-Tim Schafer's spelling of his name has been corrected in the credits (was previously Schaffer), Largo's name is still "Largo LeGrande", though.

This is all I found from the savegames I have, but I assume they also re-synced the Rapp Scallion resurrection and gave you more time on the Booty Island timed puzzles too.

All in all, seriously major thanks to LucasArts for doing this for the fans. Seems like they're still very hot on Monkey Island right now otherwise they wouldn't have done this. Looks like this new president of theirs may just be wanting to do more Monkey Island stuff after all. I'd say we're in with a very good chance of a new Monkey Island game now, what with Ron leaving Hothead, getting Ron, Tim and Dave involved with Mi2:SE, remaking the first two games in the first place. Plus, I distinctly remember a statement from a LA employee saying that they're working on a game that'll make many of the employees proud to be working there. I'll bet they're making Ron's Monkey Island 3. I'm fairly certain of it.

    Thank you, LucasArts. Seriously.
    :)

Most of the tracks in the game are actually recorded correctly (with a few exceptions) from the MT-32. I guess whether or not it sounds good is really a matter of taste, but this is the way more or less that the game was meant to be heard in 1992. This is what the soundtrack was recorded for. Microsoft GM Synth sounds very incorrect (especially in Woodtick). And will only work with ScummVM's MT-32-->General MIDI conversion feature anyway.

But that aside, There are a handful of themes that just aren't recorded properly. I'm waiting for the ability to re-inject music files into the game so I can correct this issue with my own MT-32 recordings...

    Awesome!

Also: if you beat the game in classic mode, the list of suggested things to do after the credits is back!

I almost bought this, I was so very close to buying this then I remembered two things

    A.wful ending
B.uying this is not my style

I sincerely would like Another Monkey Island but calling it Ron's MI-3 is just so stupid. There are several Lucas Arts fans that love both Monkey Island 3, 4. I respect Mr.Gilbert but he's not the second coming...

Why can't they just make another game and have him behind it? If he's so talented why can't he keep on with the series and continue where it has left off? He, himself said that he actually liked CMI and believe it or not but some of the dumbest ideas in EMI were actually planned back when SOMI was made...like the giant monkey robot...

Just extracted the Patched music file from the Special Edition. What they've done with the bone song is interesting. They've got a seperate file for all the vocals of the whole song, and they have a few variations on those. Whereas I believe in the v1.0 version, they used the in-game lines as the "X bone connected to the-", and another file for "X bone". Excellent way of making sure the vocals don't drift out of sync.

Wow, so great to see LucasArts actually starts to care! ;) Makes you wonder why they never patched MI1 SE...

they care just not that much XD

Yeah, you definitely have more time to swap the flags at the spitting contest, and more time to trap Stan in the coffin. :D

All in all, an excellent patch. There are a couple things I still want fixed (the guardhouse music, Kate's flyer in the inventory, Woodtick and Phatt Island music always starting at the beginning, min jiffies) but I can live without those now that all the important stuff has been fixed.

I would like to know if the fixed guybrush's sense of humor in story telling watching you burn in acid then losing the cursor. Was the most major issue really as it could screw up the game. Luckily we have those autosaves.

Sounds great. I wasn't sure if I should buy it with all these flaws, but now maybe I'm going to spend 10€ on that :)

Did the birds/background noise (not the music) always sound so loud in Ville de la Booty?

The music on Booty Island still has that quiet, being-played-on-distant-speakers sort of sound, unfortunately.

And I just replayed through the Rapp Scallion scene; the music still isn't synced with the animation.

I lost my Dinky Island save, does anyone have a save close to Dinky that I can have?
  • edited July 2010
Dinky Island has music again. And the Bone Song is fixed. They also added crossfades for those alternate tracks I was talking about (Largo's room, moral fibre guys, cemetery). The flute cues when going into the Voodoo hut are still missing, though.

xbox version hasn't been patched. i really hope this is getting a patch too
  • edited July 2010
Does anyone know where the save files are, I have checked:

    User\AppData\Roaming\LucasArts\Monkey Island 2 Special Edition

but they arnt there, does it have something to do with it being a steam cloud game?
  • edited July 2010
In the list of things updated they mention "Added acceleration curve to cursor speed" whats that about? (sorry if its a stupid question)
  • edited July 2010
The mouse speed has been slowed down. :)

And yeah, after playing it a little more, I can see crossfading has been added pretty much everywhere that it's needed. Largo's room at the inn, the cemetary, etc.
And yeah, I had more time to do the Booty Island timed puzzles. It's now no longer my least favourite island of the SE (it seemed to be the one where many bugs/faults originated, the 2 timed puzzles, the out of sync song, given the handkerchief here, Kate's voice, the Mardi Gras music sync problems, the Mardis Gras music itself...)

It looks NOTHING LIKE Kate; they've really obviously just traced over the original flyer sprite without realising that it was supposed to look like a character in the game. Same with Dread's map and the four map pieces.

I heard that XBox games get one free update and then the developer has to pay for more. They probably want to get as much right in the update as possible....?

    Awesomness Lucasarts

Just bought it from steam, I wish it didn't take so long to download :P

This is great, really happy they released an update :)

Just completed it, and I'd like to ask, was the antique dealer voiced by the same guy that voices Max in Sam & Max? He sounds exactly like him.
  • edited July 2010
Apparently not, but he sounds exactly like him. The antique dealer is credited as Dave Boat, but Max is voiced by William Kasten.
  • edited July 2010
Wow, I'm shocked. It sounded like Max with a few weird accents here and there.
  • edited July 2010
Yeah, he also voiced Ralphie, the gambler as well, and he sounds EXACTLY like Max there, which is extra weird.
  • edited July 2010
I also thought Wally sounded a bit like Conroy Bumpus
  • edited July 2010
Wally was actually still Neil Ross, his voice from Curse, even if his take was different.
Awesome thing about this is that all characters from Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3 have the same voice actors. And since Monkey 3 and 2's voicework was spaced apart the longest, that's pretty impressive!
  • edited July 2010
I thought Largo's voice really didn't fit the character. A whiny, shrieky high-pitched voice would've done better for me.

Nobody knows as of yet. It hasn't been announced.

That sounds absolutely horrible and hard to pull off without getting really annoying

I need help. I can't do the spitting contest thing:

    POSSIBLE SPOIL

I can not change the flags. Neither switching to old version of the game. I use the horn, the guy walks away, I try to do it and then, he comes back.

    Suggestions, please?
