You know how funny it would have been if it had been Luke, and Mike that everyone walked in on having sex, and Kenny yelled at them. Could you imagine the explosion from the LGBT community complaining about how unfairly they had been treated?
I wrote a long post here about me growing up, trying to kill myself because of society telling me my lifestyle is 'wrong', meeting my husband and stuff, but I accidentally pressed the previous page button on my keyboard and it's all gone.
Basically, my argument was threefold:
Firstly, being gay is not a choice. There is no scientific evidence for this, and it is also illogical. No-one would choose to have a life of abuse.
Secondly, having gay characters does not force anything down your throat. If you think a man saying he had a boyfriend would be shoving it down your throat, then why is Kenny saying he has a wife not shoving his heterosexuality down your throat?
Thirdly, I cannot stress how amazing it would have been for me, growing up, to have a gay character in the games I played. It would have made me feel less alone, less wrong, less of an anomaly of society. Really, it doesn't affect you at all. We're not asking for 90% of characters to be gay, that seems to be fiction made up by the right wing fundies, as I've never seen anyone say stuff like that. We're asking for the occasional gay character, like Walter, to show up. Because not only is it actually realistic to meet at least some gay people in the zombie apocalypse, but it acts as a beacon of hope for kids playing these games who feel like they're utterly and completely alone.
When I told my best friend that I thought I was gay when I was 14, he beat me, kicked my skull in. Having one reassurance that people were okay with it somewhere, like in a game, would have saved me from going into the darkest two years of my life, where practically every day I used to go to the railway bridge and try to convince myself to jump.
I only became okay when I met my husband-to-be James when I was 16 and he was 17 and a half. We decided that, even if the change we can make it tiny, even if we can help one kid from wanting to kill himself, then we can make a difference.
Having proportional representation is games and media is one way we can do that, as it normalises it, instead of treating it like a dirty little secret.
Having all gay characters would be dumb, like having all male characters, or all Asian characters.
But diversity...diversity helps people.
As to all of you saying you disagree with the gay 'lifestyle', I'm afraid I can't think of anything to say about my feelings other than you disgust me. There is no gay 'lifestyle'. There's being gay.
Disagreeing with someone being gay is like disagreeing with someone being an ethnic minority. Or disagreeing with someone being a certain gender. It. Is. Ridiculous. And yes, I'm afraid saying you disagree with who someone is IS, indeed, homophobia. If you believe that gay people are wrong to be gay, you are a homophobe.
I don't have much more to say on the matter, but I will post some statistics, so you can see what homophobia does to the world, in the desperate hopes that you will consider stopping telling people that they are wrong for being who they are, and holding the opinion that they shouldn't be represented on principle in any art form.
(there GB stands for gay and bisexual, LB stands for lesbian and bisexual.)
I apologise to all of you who already know how dire the situation is, and how damaging saying you don't approve of a 'lifestyle' is. But there sure aren't many on this thread.
Look, you may feel uncomfortable around gay people. That's okay. It's still homophobia, but it's understandable: we naturally are scared by things which are 'different'. I felt terrified around other gay peopleapart from James for years. You'll get over that.
But specifically saying there shouldn't be gay people in things at all, but there should be straight people? Saying having a gay person 'forces their agenda (what even?) down your throat? Saying their 'lifestyle' is wrong? According to who, God? The person who thinks we shouldn't wear clothing of mixed fabric like umm, we all do?
That just isn't okay, and reinforces all the kind of shit that made me attempt suicide on my 16th birthday by taking an overdose of painkillers. You don't understand the overall damage you are causing by enforcing these views.
Please, PLEASE reconsider. Or at least, be tolerant if nothing else. And no, saying 'the lifestyle is completely wrong, but I allow gays' presence' is not what tolerance is. I shouldn't even be talking of tolerance anyway: there is no reason you should ever dislike someone, even quietly, or being someone they can't control.
I know you like making jokes about the 'silly lefties' and all that. But this is actually a serious issue, and you spreading incredibly hurtful stuff like this is just shockingly dumb.
Our twin girls are going to be born next March. And I pray with all my heart that they never have to experience people saying they disapprove of them for whoever they happen to be.
Don't expect me to reply, as (as you can tell) this subject is close to my heart.
Also, I won't listen to this as it means a hell of a lot to me, not in the least because the couple in the video mirrors us nearly exactly in terms of their lives and the way they helped each other, and I will cry which is not good when trying to meet deadlines.
Now that we're at it, we should also have a character who is in a romantic relationship with a zombie, an animal and some midgets for an ultra realistic atmosphere.

In case you didnt notice i was being sarcastic.
I don't think the writers should go out of their way to accomodate some kind of minority just for it to be half-heartedly represented as it can lead to horrible characterization as that becomes their only defining trait. We saw this in The Walking Dead show with T-Dog, the "token black guy" who has about 10 minutes of total dialogue in 20 something episodes and literally no purpose otherwise than to show that there was a black guy on the show. I mean look at the show today: Tyreese, Sasha, Bob, Michonne, Morgan, Gabriel. These are characters who are well-handled and they are all black.
NOMORET-DOGS
Recently there have been beginnings of LGBT characters in TWD universe. Walt/Matt in the game. Tara in the show. I don't think it's something that should be thrown in for the hell of it and I think in both the show and the game, they are doing a good job in portraying them as real people just as they should be because in reality, being gay doesn't make you any different from a "straight" person. You are still a human.

Ah well, there are some real bigots and jerks out there. But that's just the way some people are. Can't change a person's nature. Not everyone is like that though thankfully.

Korra is amazing!
With some people hopefully. From my experience on these forums though, some people have the mindset of a rock in the way that they won't move and won't compromise. There's no point arguing with a rock. Unless you can earth bend that is.
Yes, because the problem with video games these days is that too few of them feature military personnel. There are also plenty of police in video games. Firefighters, less so, but honestly, no one's "intolerant" of firefighters so people don't feel a huge need to expand their representation in media to break down social barriers.
I agree, about the LGBT community having enough power in Hollywood.
Why should they get more special treatment?
And why does their sexuali… morety seem to dictate special treatment in the first place?
What about the brave men, who fought for this country?
They went over and fought for America's freedom.
But when they get home, many suffering from PTSD, everyone seems to sweep them under the rug.
Why not give those guys more recognition?
The ones who came home, left the military, and whom society; especially the Government, seem all to happy to forget.
Why give recognition to the homosexual community, based on their sexuality?
Why does their being homosexual, make them seemingly more important than Military Veterans, or members on the Police Force, Fire Department, etc?
It seems to me, that people who serve others, and who put their lives on the line for the wellfair and safety of other people, are the ones who deserve recognition.
Not those of a certain sexual orientation.
Thank you flog. I actually like hearing about your family it's nice. (I mean that in the less creepiest way possible) I'm female to male transgender (I don't plan on getting surgery) as well as gay (Well panromantic but still I prefer men) and I'm asexual and it's really hard living in a world that only really cares about straight people and when people call people "trannys" and when people think everyone needs sex......it was reassuring to know that there's others that care.

I think you should be able to determine Clem's sexuality in S3. Like Clem meets a group in S3 with kids her age and you could either start a determinant relationship with a boy or a girl in that group.

I feel like none of the characters should have a sexuality and by that I mean I feel like it shouldn't really be focused on in a game about the apocalypse :x I know it's more about relationships but you play as a little girl in season 2 at least.

You're saying is gay people are just as capable of being bad as straight people...well, freaking OBVIOUSLY. They're fucking human, loads of humans are shit.
No-one argued every gay person is a saint. They argued that abusing them for their sexuality is shit.
Gay men mistreating an old woman and stomping on her cross.
One man attacked by a group of gay men
Are gays victims? Sure. When they have the numbers advantage they apparently can be just as bad as other bigots out there.
Firstly, being gay is not a choice. There is no scientific evidence for this, and it is also illogical. No-one would choose to have a life of abuse.
Yes I agree it isnt a choice. Yes no one would choose that.
Secondly, having gay characters does not force anything down your throat.
Honestly though it is if the characters only purpose is to be a gay character, Matt and Walt wernt as being gay was only a little part of who they were. Honestly having a gay character is like how custamary it was to have black charcater a while ago. The show sacrifices quality to have variety that isnt needed. And for what its worth I hate sarita as a character as she is nothing more than a relationship plot device
but it acts as a beacon of hope for kids playing these games who feel like they're utterly and completely alone.
How exactly? I've never felt any character in a game gives me hope as they are like me. Why are gay people like each other at all, being gay should only be a small part of who you are anyway
Having proportional representation is games and media is one way we can do that, as it normalises it,
But again it is a small percentage of people; a minority, yes its normal but its not "normal" in the grand scheme of everybody. And again the media often goes the opposite way with over the top effeminate people, often it reinforces negative stereotypes. Having a minority in a story isnt neccessary and especially not just because they are a minority
As to all of you saying you disagree with the gay 'lifestyle', I'm afraid I can't think of anything to say about my feelings other than you disgust me. There is no gay 'lifestyle'. There's being gay.
Look I agree with you however I'm all for opinion and free speech if people disagree with it let them, its there opinion after all even if you disagree; Yes it is not a choice however for me just because someone is offended it does not make them right. Furthermore unless the person is being abusive I cant find much reprehensibal. Often however I find its the case that people more disagree with the media generated gay persona rather than gays themselves. Again no one should face abuse however for me people who simply disagree with something are now facing abuse themselves and for many things its often an offhand comment for example that guy who was made to apologise after yelling at some paparazzi chasing him. Also the west is pretty accepting as a whole; people who are homkphobic are now judged more than gays themselves
I'll skip all the stats if you dont mind
Look, you may feel uncomfortable around gay people.
i dont think i've seen anyone say that and to be fair this isnt even a disucssion about being gay its about having gay characters. I mean the comic is a good example there have been four gay charcaters recently and two were completeley just there for the relationship factor they had no other reason to be their.
And I pray with all my heart that they never have to experience people saying they disapprove of them for whoever they happen to be.
Then I hate to say it but your living in a fantasy the world is a cruel place and always will be to be honest, nothing will change that
Please, PLEASE reconsider.
Again I know your trying to guilt trip some people but a lot of this really dosnt have much to do with the subject at hand, Having a character in a game purely for there sexuality etc. That is what the OP said and what people were responding too.

The same could be said for any minority! No one is perfect. Everyone is human and humans are imperfect creatures. Bigotry exist in every kind of demographic because being gay or being straight or even being a different ethnicity somehow impacts our viewpoint of a person just because they are different. In reality, we are all the same. We have our own opinions and some choose to be more tolerant while others look to persecute anyone whose beliefs contradict their own. Humans can be despicable. Humans can also be compassionate, understanding beings. Its just up to how we choose to see the world and what we choose to believe in.
Gay men mistreating an old woman and stomping on her cross.
One man attacked by a group of gay men
Are gays victims? Sure. When they have the numbers advantage they apparently can be just as bad as other bigots out there.
I can understand that, but you also gotta realize that requests like the one posed in the OP seem like they're asking for LGBT characters just to have LGBT characters in the game. It comes across like people want that to be their defining feature, which doesn't seem like good writing.
I'm not asking for gay characters, I'm asking for them not to be specifically avoided as many people in this thread want.
For lots of the people here, they seem to think that if there is ANY gay character they are only there because they're gay.
I actually asked my brother what he felt about it in the game. He is someone who supports equal rights for gay's, and gay marriage. His response was this. "I am not gay, it doesn't interest me. I don't want to see men kissing, or care about seeing a relationship like that in a game". That's pretty much how I feel. I don't hate gay people, or have anything against them. I understand why they want this in the game. But for me it's not something I am interested in seeing. If they add something like that to the game, fine but I'm not going to be out cheering for it.
Firstly, being gay is not a choice. There is no scientific evidence for this, and it is also illogical. No-one would choose to have a life of abuse.
I will have to take your word on this. I don't know everything, and to pretend i did, would make a ass out of myself.
Secondly, having gay characters does not force anything down your throat. If you think a man saying he had a boyfriend would be shoving it down your throat, then why is Kenny saying he has a wife not shoving his heterosexuality down your throat?
For me the only thing that annoys me is when people belittle my Religion in a argument. I understand that Christians say some pretty hurtful things, but not all Christian is like that. So people shouldn't generalize on either side.
Thirdly, I cannot stress how amazing it would have been for me, growing up, to have a gay character in the games I played. It would have made me feel less alone, less wrong, less of an anomaly of society
Not to belittle your cause or nothing, but Gay people are not the only group treated badly in society. What about PTSD veterans. We don't get shit, our families/friends hate us, we are the "Monster", which leads to a life of substance abuse, suicide or whatever. I am still dealing with this shit six years later. I've had three friends kill themselves. I just spend my time on my farm where i can be alone. At this point in my life, i don't other people around me in my life, its not because i don't want to be around other people. Its just that it never works out.
Lonely existence man.
When I told my best friend that I thought I was gay when I was 14, he beat me, kicked my skull in.
Kids do stupid shit, I'm sure he feels really bad for what he did.
I only became okay
Still waiting.
Having proportional representation is games and media is one way we can do that, as it normalizes it, instead of treating it like a dirty little secret.
You know what sucks. When people write a character with a disorder like for example PTSD, and they make him the a monster, reinventing the stereotype. People with PTSD aren't monsters. They breathe, bleed just like everyone. Everyone makes mistakes, just some people are made to feel like a monster every mistake they make.

Once again it is an opinion that you are born gay, there has yet to be any indisputable and solid evidence of a homosexual causing gene. I've already explained in prior posts that it may not be a conscious decision, as in waking up and deciding to be gay(though it seems to be a trend with several youth to have some obscure sexuality/gender identity/mental illness as of late), but it is a decision nonetheless to act on those homosexual thoughts that some are more susceptible to than others.
I never said they were exclusive. I myself support traditional marriage only, but I am not condemning others for supporting both. That is not what I was addressing in my post. There is a hypocrisy among several LGBT people and it's supporters that we must accept and celebrate their lifestyle, and it's open season to attack and ridicule anyone who disagrees, even when they are doing so respectfully and politely. You have only proved my point, by implying that I'm a homophobe for disagreeing with homosexuality. I am not "afraid" of homosexuals, nor do I hate them. I have friends who are homosexual and I don't call them names/slurs, or think that they are lesser than me simply because I disagree with their lifestyle. Frankly, I find it amusing that many supporters/members of LGBT can only resort to insults and name calling when they come across someone who disagrees in a respectable fashion.
What do you mean their lifestyle and how to choose their lives? If people chose to live their lives like it, they wouldn't kil themselves fo… morer it.
And since when was supporting traditional marriage and supporting gay marriage mutually exclusive?
I support religious men marrying religious women, non religious men marrying non-religious women, any two people who love each other marrying each other.
I support both 'traditional' marriage and gay marriage.
And I'm sorry, but anyone who disagrees with the homosexual 'lifestyle' IS a homophobe, because no homosexual lifestyle exists out of just being gay.
Why is acting on homosexual thoughts wrong, but acting on heterosexual thoughts okay? What is wrong about me enjoying spending time with my husband, whose care and love saved my life when I was younger?
I never said people are born gay. However there is absolutely no scientific evidence that people 'choose' to be gay.
You should accept the lifestyle. I don't know what celebrate means here. All I'm asking is that you don't judge people for being who they are, which you are failing at.
The difference between people having a go at homosexuals and people having a go at homophobes is that you have no control over being gay. You do have control over your political views.
I'm sorry mate, but disagreeing with homosexuality is what homophobia is.
Homophobia isn't a literal fear of homosexuals. It is the equivalent of sexism and racism, but discriminating based on sexual preference.
Don't believe me? Here's the dictionary definition. Feel free to look it up in any other (non-purely etymological) dictionary.
homophobia
ˌhɒməˈfəʊbɪə,ˌhəʊmə-/ dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people.
Saying you disapprove of the gay 'lifestyle' is saying you disapprove of people for acting upon gay feelings, thus showing predjudice and dislike of gay people.
I know you don't want to think of yourself as one: fundies are often terrified of negative labels. But you simply are.

I'm glad I've been avoiding this thread. It's exploded all over.
This shouldn't even be an issue. Matthew and Walter were fine. So far "no" characters have "played up" their sexuality and that's great. Sexuality is not what this game series is about and I'm glad that it mostly leaves it alone. I'm absolutely against discrimination of gay people and think they should be able to get married, but I also don't think every game needs a flamboyant dragged out male-born character, in the same way I don't think that every game needs scantily clad women with big tits acting like bimbos or overly aggressive macho men.
Because humans were meant to be heterosexual, a man's body was made to procreate with a woman's body. That's just the way it is. The absence of a gene or any genetic deformity/abnormality that causes homosexuality/determines your sexual orientation means that it is not something you're born with. If you aren't born with it, then you choose to do it. Homosexuality develops due to environmental factors, and then one chooses to act on those thoughts.
I have no obligation to accept the lifestyle, and I'm not judging anyone for being gay. I am expressing my views on the matter, which I have every right to do.
Again, a person chooses not to control their sexual desires, and a person chooses to act on their thoughts. You can't compare sexual orientation with a political stance and expect that to validate your claim. Two very different things that aren't even remotely in the same category.
Oh really?
"Homophobia is the hatred or fear of homosexuals - that is, lesbians and gay men - sometimes leading to acts of violence and expressions of hostility. Homophobia is not confined to any one segment of society, and can be found in people from all walks of life."
"Homophobia-unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality."
"Homophobia-irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals"
I found all these definitions simply by typing in "define homophobia". I do not fear, dislike, hate, or wish harm upon anyone who is homosexual. I disagree with their lifestyle, but I don't hate the person for it. Nor am I looking to control/strong arm homosexuals into a lifestyle they don't choose, therefore I'm not discriminating against them. What I am doing is expressing my thoughts and views on homosexuality, and I have every right to voice my disagreement respectfully.
Why is acting on homosexual thoughts wrong, but acting on heterosexual thoughts okay? What is wrong about me enjoying spending time with my … morehusband, whose care and love saved my life when I was younger?

But just...please don't be pricks.
Thanks.
Also, I won't listen to this as it means a hell of a lot to me, not in the least because the couple in the video mirrors us nearly exactly in terms of their lives and the way they helped each other, and I will cry which is not good when trying to meet deadlines.
But please give this a watch.

Now that we're at it, we should also have a character who is in a romantic relationship with a zombie, an animal and some midgets for an ultra realistic atmosphere.
In case you didnt notice i was being sarcastic.
Comparing homosexuality to necrophilia and bestiality is appalling.
If only everyone in this thread thought like you.
Also, Korra is awesome.
Ah well, there are some real bigots and jerks out there. But that's just the way some people are. Can't change a person's nature. Not everyone is like that though thankfully.
Korra is amazing!
I disagree, I think we can change the opinions of bigots if we try hard enough.
With some people hopefully. From my experience on these forums though, some people have the mindset of a rock in the way that they won't move and won't compromise. There's no point arguing with a rock. Unless you can earth bend that is.
This is the perfect comment.
Yes, because the problem with video games these days is that too few of them feature military personnel. There are also plenty of police in video games. Firefighters, less so, but honestly, no one's "intolerant" of firefighters so people don't feel a huge need to expand their representation in media to break down social barriers.
That would make me extremely uncomfortable. :c I hope it doesn't happen.
The thing is though, isn't adding in a gay character just to have a gay character sort of cheap and counterproductive to sending the intended message?
I feel like none of the characters should have a sexuality and by that I mean I feel like it shouldn't really be focused on in a game about the apocalypse :x I know it's more about relationships but you play as a little girl in season 2 at least.
Didnt kid shows used to always have a black kid and a kid on a wheelchair? It looks like the same thing to me.
test.
Gay men mistreating an old woman and stomping on her cross.
One man attacked by a group of gay men
Are gays victims? Sure. When they have the numbers advantage they apparently can be just as bad as other bigots out there.
I'm not asking for gay characters, I'm asking for them not to be specifically avoided as many people in this thread want.
For lots of the people here, they seem to think that if there is ANY gay character they are only there because they're gay.
In season two there is a straight married couple.
Did you complain about that?
You're saying is gay people are just as capable of being bad as straight people...well, freaking OBVIOUSLY. They're fucking human, loads of humans are shit.
No-one argued every gay person is a saint. They argued that abusing them for their sexuality is shit.
Sorry but I disagree with a lot of this
Yes I agree it isnt a choice. Yes no one would choose that.
How exactly? I've never felt any character in a game gives me hope as they are like me. Why are gay people like each other at all, being gay should only be a small part of who you are anyway
I'll skip all the stats if you dont mind
i dont think i've seen anyone say that and to be fair this isnt even a disucssion about being gay its about having gay characters. I mean the comic is a good example there have been four gay charcaters recently and two were completeley just there for the relationship factor they had no other reason to be their.
Then I hate to say it but your living in a fantasy the world is a cruel place and always will be to be honest, nothing will change that
Again I know your trying to guilt trip some people but a lot of this really dosnt have much to do with the subject at hand, Having a character in a game purely for there sexuality etc. That is what the OP said and what people were responding too.
The best thing about necrophilia is that you don't have to bring flowers. Usually they're already there.
Tumblr users will never be happy
I can't tell if this comment is trying to be rude if it's in reply to me after I just complimented you in my other comment. Wow.
I can't believe the only gay people in the world are Tumblr users.
I can understand that, but you also gotta realize that requests like the one posed in the OP seem like they're asking for LGBT characters just to have LGBT characters in the game. It comes across like people want that to be their defining feature, which doesn't seem like good writing.
Strawman.
I will have to take your word on this. I don't know everything, and to pretend i did, would make a ass out of myself.
For me the only thing that annoys me is when people belittle my Religion in a argument. I understand that Christians say some pretty hurtful things, but not all Christian is like that. So people shouldn't generalize on either side.
Kids do stupid shit, I'm sure he feels really bad for what he did.
Still waiting.
Feel free to look it up in any other (non-purely etymological) dictionary.
homophobia
ˌhɒməˈfəʊbɪə,ˌhəʊmə-/
dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people.
Saying you disapprove of the gay 'lifestyle' is saying you disapprove of people for acting upon gay feelings, thus showing predjudice and dislike of gay people.
I know you don't want to think of yourself as one: fundies are often terrified of negative labels. But you simply are.
Oh please.
Do you think the opinions of sexists and racists should be respected?
I agree with you. Those stats are scary .
No wonder everyone hates Catholics. I am one, but damn I hate them too XD. (Well most of them)
I'm glad I've been avoiding this thread.
@Flog61
I'm not a religious fundamentalist, I'm an atheist, but if agreeing with this makes me homophobic, bring on the labels, I ain't scared
