So i played ep3 on Tuesday... loved it! fav ep... saved one of my save slots for now to do 1-3 and then 4-7... played ep1 on Thursday... but yesterday and today when i try to load it i just get a black screen...i know its not the PS3 every other game loads..... so what to do?

  • Great, I'll give that a try! How do you delete the data file of the game?

  • Why isn't Telltale posting here to tell us anything?!

  • edited March 2015

Same problem. EU PS3. I downloaded the episode Thursday and played it up to 2/3. Wanted to finish the episode today, but the screen stays black after starting the game, forcing me to switch off the PS3 manually.

  • Wait, I had the black screen even before I played episode three. It wasn't until I denied updates and cut the internet that I was able to play it ONCE before the screen returned. So even if i remove my saves and redownload everything, I won't be able to play because I had the black screen just from downloaded episode 3.

  • Once the save data is deleted, I do not believe there is any way to recover the save files, since from what I can tell, that is where the file information is stored. That's why for me, deleting the save data is a last resort.

I just don't want to have everyone playing my game start over if the issue might come up again in the future, since we still don't know what causes it.

  • This issue really is supremely disappointing. First in just how utterly frustrating this kind of complete crash is. I feel like Telltale is the best story teller in gaming right now and for me not to be able to play the latest chapter in a series I love...is crushing. And secondly in the lack of communication from Telltale regarding this issue. I'm in Vancouver British Columbia, I'm a season pass holder of this and every telltale series that is released, I downloaded episode 3 on Thursday night and immediately got the black screen system crash which required a hard reset of my PS3. I then deleted the game, re-downloaded it and the 3 episodes, when I downloaded episodes 1 and 2 the game was loading and working fine, once I downloaded episode 3 again...black screen of death. I had just played episode 2 again last weekend and everything was working fine. Now we have a fix listed above that says to delete the save files and start again, and the game should work and we can play all 3 episodes with no issue. I would like some confirmation of this from Telltale before I go deleting all my progress only to find that I will still have the same black screen. Also I'd like to know if my season pass will be deleted if I do delete the save files, will I have to buy the game again? I realize that these bugs and glitches are unexpected and difficult to analyze and fix, but some direction from this game developer who's games I love so much would be appreciated.

you can always downloaded again the season pass from the store ...the problem is that you can't play episode three offline ...if you play episode three offline like me when you exit from the game and retry it the game crash with black screen so my advice is delete the savedata...begins the chapter three online for the sync of savedata with server,,the game will create a default renegate route for episode one and two ...so if you don't want to play again the previous chapters...for me worked fine i try to exit the game and retry and no problem (of course i was online)

My apologies, I recommend try deleting the Game Data Utility for the game from your Game Data Utility Menu on your PS3, then start the game while connected to the internet, and you will be prompted to download the latest update again, as well as Episode 3. Then try restarting the episode, and you should be able to play it without experiencing this issue.

  • That was the first fix I attempted but there is nothing for Game of Thrones in my Gama Data Utility Menu on my PS3. Only in the save data utility does the game have any files. I suppose that I'll just have to try deleting the save files and hope that it works. Oh and I've only played the game online, playing it offline seems to cause more problems.

No, It's 4 saves: 1.me, 2.me picking only the "asshole-options", 3.my sister and 4.a friend. They'd kill me if I'd delete their files. xP
Also, I love GoT, but I really don't want to go through the entire game again. :// And I also don't want the game to randomly make choices for me. That undermines the whole purpose of Telltale's games.
I appreciate your advice, I really do, but for me, and probably many other people, deleting all the files simply isn't an option.
I think if Telltale cares about their fans, they should just fix this as soon as possible. Unfortunately I think the staff member who was commenting here earlier has died on his keyboard or something.

  • I deleted the save files and the game is working again. My season pass is still purchased and all 3 episodes are there. Now I just have to start from the beginning again. I'm curious to see what will happen once I get to episode 3, if the same issue will resurface. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

  • Um, can you retype what you're trying to say? Because I'm confused as a result of some typos on what to do and what happened. Also, I worry that deleting all my saves will not fix the issue once I reach episode 3 again. I had the problem just from downloading the 3rd episode.

  • Success! I restarted from the beginning, played all the way through to the end of Episode 3. Saw my choices. End credits played. The game saved and I was sent back to the main menu. I then quit the game, went back to the PS3 home screen, then restarted the game. No black screen crash. The main menu loaded, my save file is intact. Looks like if all else fails, if you delete your save files and start the game from the beginning that will fix the problem. Or it fixed it for me anyway. Thanks again for the tip.

Thanks for the info :). However, although I do not really mind playing episode 1 and 2 again, I (and probably many others) also have the safe files of friends and family. Is it possible to delete just my own game data? I only played episode 3 with that one, so maybe it would help. I do not see multiple safe files in my game utility data, just the one (which probably represents all 4 safe files).

  • edited March 2015

I think you're saying that playing episode 3 offline corrupts the savedata right? Because that can't be, since I had the issue BEFORE playing episode 3 at all (online or offline). The problem occured simply from downloading that episode.

  • Im from Germany. I downloaded the update and downloaded Episode 3 from the Game instead of the PS3 store because its not available there. I played Episode 3 with huge problems... It runs slowly or just with dialogue and without sound or without dialogue and only with sound. Episode 2 was the worst. It even crashed a couple of times. But no telltale game ran perfectly on my ps3 so I was just happy to play it.
I played Episode 3 and wanted to start the game again 8 hours after I played it and I am connected and logged on and now the game wont start. Black screen.

Sony and Telltale can not exactly cover themselves with glory for the last 6 months or so...

  • Is there any way to fix the issue without clearing all the save data? Are there any updates planned to fix the problem, or is deleting the data pretty much the only way?

I just want to know just because I don't want to have to keep starting over if this bug were to happen again in the future.

  • I would assume, like with all of Telltale's bug fixes, that eventually Telltale will release an update that will fix the problem, but they don't even seem to know what the issue is or how to fix it right now. For now, the only way to play the episode if you're having the black screen crash is to clear the save data files. Everything is working fine since I did it. I hope when episode 4 is released we don't have the same issue again, because I'd hate to replay the series from the beginning every time a new episode is out.

  • Thread: GoT download not working after PS3 1.05 update

I've emailed twice about this and still haven't gotten a response. Not sure if there's already a topic about this, but I scrolled through a few pages and haven't seen anything yet (so apologies if it exists somewhere). I've downloaded and completed all 3 episodes of GoT on the PS3. I have multiple save files for different choices to play.

After I completed the first 'run' through episode 3, I saved, and turned off the game. When I tried to replay another save file the next day, I was told I had to download the latest 1.05 update for PS3. So I did. After that, I haven't been able to get past the black load screen. I hit X to select the game, the screen turns black right before it's supposed to load, but never does. No music, no nothing. I've had to hard reset my PS3 so many times already. I've uninstalled and redownloaded the files. I can get to the load screen if I don't do the 1.05 update, but none of my episodes are available to play, so I can't play it without updating/connecting to the internet. I'd really like to avoid deleting all my save files, as I've played the first 2 episodes 3 times in order to build up my choices. Hours of gameplay.

Additionally, it seems as though the 1.05 update is making the GoT file in the Game Utility Data folder disappear as well. It still appears in my PS3 titles menu, but under the actual GUD folder, the GoT game goes missing.

    Please advise. Thanks!
