I think their argument is that there was no need for any relationship at all, but frankly that whole scene seems to suggest the guy just relies on his boyfriend being necessary to coast by doing little work. A relationship is actually pretty valuable to the plot here. The guy is clearly a bit jealous they have the nicest room for him doing nothing.
The other argument could be that they are simply "token" characters there for the sake of it. But seeing as the walking dead has plenty of minor characters and its only the first episode this seems unlikely
That's true for any character. Kenny didn't need to be in a relationship with Sarita, but can't remember them complaining about heterosexuality being shoved down our throats.

Well, seeing how this thread is just got revived from 2014 to basically to have an argument, and doesn't even really relate to Season 3, it shall be locked.

..so if jonas had been josephine, and they had gone 'all you do is fuck josephine' that would be forced heterosexuality?

But you could see them hugging and kissing as soon as you got off the boat earlier in the episode, so it was already kind of out there.

Kind of funny seeing my old comments though.
