Ah, ok. I just checked the video I recorded, apparently it stopped recording at some point, and resumed after a while... maybe I won't use livestream, since apparently it will skip some parts of the game.

it skips about 5 seconds, and the recording is just to verify we've played the whole thing
I tested it with The Penal Zone, and it skipped from the part where I used teleportation for the first time (on the tutorial) to the part where Sam was using the Homing Beacon on Skunk-a'pe... and then when I used the remote control it gave the message again. I will use it then, I hope it doesn't happen too frequently. Does livestreaming use up too much bandwidth? I already exceeded it last month and I don't want to hear my parents' complaints again...

the same as uploading a video of that size to youtube, i would imagine

Well, it'll be about 24 hours of mid-quality video spread over a week, so yeah, it takes a lot of bandwidth.
Yeah, Livestream's Webcaster was complaining at me about not finding a camera, but the Procaster utility works fine with no issues
It sounded strange though when I was broadcasting live for a few minutes and tested it by visiting my stream page at the same time. Whenever there was sound playing, the software picked it up, creating an infinite loop of sound until I turned it off.
Yeah, I use my laptop to keep an eye on it for that reason.
And for people who have had trouble with it skipping sections, that's generally what happens to me when my internet drops. My record holding 2:30 run of Curse has gaps from the quicksand to Blondebeard's, from the start of Blood Island to the volcano sacrifice, and from Guybrush and Elaine sailing away to...well, I guess it never went back up after that.
If i do I wont be doing a live stream, but I will post in the forums, So how do I let you guys know how long each game took? Do I post when im starting a game then post again when i have just finished so you guys can figure out how long it took or do I just time myself and post how long it took me to play each game?
If I choose to do this by twitter, will I tweet just as im starting a game/Tales chapter, then tweet again just after I finish the game/Tales chapter? and the length between those 2 tweets indicate my time for that game/Tales chapter?
Just asking because twitter doesnt seem to have specific times, it usually says "about an hour ago" if a tweet was posted close to an hour ago it doesnt ever say at what specific time it was posted like these forums.
Okay, a little clarification. The Twitter thing was taken from the "Monkeython" thread that started this whole thing. Basically, the OP was suggesting that everyone do their own marathon of all the games before Rise of the Pirate God came out, and he recommended posting Twitter updates with your progress through the games and with your thoughts while playing. Once the whole thing evolved into the First Great Monkey Island Race of 2009, Icedhope and I decided to leave it open as a suggestion for people who wanted to allow people to spectate but didn't want to broadcast.
So it's really not necessary, since I'm only going to be checking times on the forums. But if you still want to do it, go right ahead, just make sure to make your start and finish times here.
And Ozzie, you can really do this however you want, but I would discourage against using Facebook, since anyone who doesn't have one can't see it. Which is apparently only me, but whatever.
It's really simple, as long as bandwidth and performance aren't an issue for you. Just go to http://www.livestream.com, set up an account and create a channel, and download the Procaster program. If you have any trouble figuring out Procaster, several of us have used it before and can help.

So, I've created my channel, now what do I put in the url boxes in the verifying section?
Oh, none of us are verified, as far as I know. They suggest it, but it's not really worth going through the trouble of doing. As I recall, I couldn't even provide all the information they wanted. It's definitely not necessary to be able to broadcast.

Oh well, I did it anyways. So I guess I'll start up procast and see what happens. Btw, here's my channel livestream.com/ozziemonkeycast

I'm verified. Bonafide. Cow hide. Whatever, now I'm-a go and hide.
Man, already I have no clue how to work procaster! Help please! I just don't know what everything is for, does it work like Fraps?
basically, there is a thing that says screen down the bottom, and you click record and a green square goes around your screen (it doesnt show on the video) and that records screen. i think there's one to the left that says game? use that one.
Questions: Are competitors (just generally, not neccisarily me) allowed to use walkthroughs? because, although we wont be able to tell, they know who they are.

Is the record button the big "Go live" button in the middle?
Sorry, kind of wandered away for a bit. Yes, it's not a record button so much as a start broadcasting button. You'll have to use it in screen mode for ScummVM and Escape, but game mode works with the special editions and Tales.
In screen mode, once you "go live", you'll get marks on your screen showing what area is being broadcasted, as well as controls along the bottom to change the size or stop. You can click on the bounding box and drag it to move it around the screen.
In game mode, you don't click "go live". You switch Procaster to game and leave it running, then start up your DirectX game. Once the game starts, you press ctrl+1 (if I remember, but it says on screen) to start broadcasting, and you have a little box with information and controls in the corner of the screen. Unfortunately, if you're playing full screen, you won't have access to the chat box.

Ok. Wouldn't Escape use Game mode though, cause it uses Direct3D?
ok, well I wont be streaming coz ive been having connection problems lately. I guess i might be a bit slow coz i havnt played LR b4, Ill try and finish it before the race starts so I wont get stuck on puzzles during the race.
Sorry, I forgot to answer the walkthrough question. The theory is that you have to have a pretty solid knowledge of the games in order to be competitive. However, considering how I'm planning on racing, I can't really say you can't use one if you need it.
No! No eating during the contest! No peeing either!

no, when i said "it's my logo!" i meant it was my logo for livestream, id be incredibly overjoyed if everyone used it! we're cool

I'll be documenting via twitter: http://twitter.com/Lennie_Melvin

What hardware should I use to simulate a camera to capture my desktop, so Livestream can stream my desktop?
edit: nevermind. I downloaded Procaster and it's working fine.
more edit: My Livestream page is at: http://www.livestream.com/chyron8472
Livestream has a seperate utility that you don't need a camera for to stream your desktop or directX games.

I know its not this accurate but do you essentially mean July 12th 12:00am - July 18th 11:59pm

Officially, yes, but I'm pretty lenient, as long as anyone who needs more time lets me know before I start announcing results or anything.
You'd think, but it doesn't work.
I might do a commentary if that's alright.
I see no reason why not. Also, I plan on doing my best to beat you, even if that does mean shaving five hours off my time.
