I can't ban you, unfortunately, and I can't refund you (fortunately, I don't want you to get the satisfaction of winning) but I can keep trying to tell you why you're wrong.
You don't need to use slander to complain about the wait time. Instead of calling it vapourware, calling telltale pirates, etc. you could have just said, "I thought this DVD would have come out sooner, but I don't want to wait for something I would have bought when it came out at the same time anyway. Please give me my money back"
I am obviously sorry to disturb your connived rip-off scam, but I paid years ago for Monkey Island 1-4/received them on floppy/DVDs or whatever-played them/enjoy them/have them.
Last year, obviously not being as used to being ripped-off as you all are, I heard that Monkey 5 was out, and foolishly via the internet paid £24.99 UK to play/enjoy it via what turns out to be 'Steam' ...
Recently (over 2 months ago) I paid $49-95 to receive in APRIL this year Deluxe TOMI on DVDs etc.
It is May 28th, and your pirate company say that it will be a few more weeks before they might despatch that for which I/maybe you have paid.
He doesn't win if he gets refunded, he loses a great DVD.
The problem here seems to be that he bought on Steam.
See, charlie, when you paid 50 dollars, you paid 35 dollars for the digital game (that you already had on steam), 15 dollars for the deluxe package, and 0 dollars for the DVD, because it's included for everyone who buys the digital game.
Steam doesn't include the DVD, but telltale does. If you had bought from here directly when you wanted to play the game (so, anytime from June) you would have only needed to pay 15 dollars to get the deluxe edition, like me (or nothing to get just the DVD, like some people).
I understand that it's annoying paying so much for just the DVD, but you didn't purchase just the DVD, you rebought the digital game. Next time to avoid that you can buy from telltale directly not through Steam, if you want to get a DVD in the end.
yeah, i dont understand why anyone would buy a telltale game on steam
In his case, ignorance of the telltale version, it seems. In some cases, wanting to have all their games through steam and not caring about the DVD. Or wanting to get a better deal since Steam has sales.
Makes me wonder if we could get their DVDs copies that they don't want The ones who bought through telltale and don't order the DVD, I mean. It's been paid for after all...
*whistles*
at the moment, you could order a tomi dvd, pay for it, and it still is free and you could keep doing that over and over. someone should fix that
Yeah I've noticed that, you can order like 10 of them, including the Deluxe Edition, you need to pay 15 bucks for the Deluxe edition but that it. I hope they change it and check carefully if anyone did that.
I am sure that by checking all of the relevant STEAM-TOMI fora you will find a solution.
Quite honestly, as someone with all of the previous 4 etc MI games on Amiga-PC, I feel that the bollox surrounding paying unrefundable e.g. £24.99 upfront for 5 -part often unworking digital download is a thieving immoral disgrace.
This week I established:
1) I cannot get my money back - first time in my 57 years of life this has occurred/1st game-install failure etc on computers since 1990. 2) It will not run on/crashes my ancient fantastic brilliant XP fully updated 2003 Sony Vaio 2.8 P4 1 gb NVidia TI4200, whatever I have tried (17 things over 24 hours including deleting e.g. Viruscheckers ...).
3) HOORAY - I got it running after 17 hours on 30 month old year old Vista Home P. Fujitsu Amilo Pi 1505 1 + half gb after initial lag/mouse probs AFTER folllowing topics on this etc site and setting on game front-end SETTINGS video quality to lowest 1 and to playing etc in window and not full-screen.
Quite honestly, I think that here in UK all the good publicity STEAM-Telltale has received over this week on e.g. CH4 TV text games section is based on fantasy land ...
I suspect that in the real world most people have had more problems installing etc this unrefundable download than anything ...
Will the 4 next parts of TOMI each require a higher-spec/aptly setup PC????
BTW even on little laptop the game at minimum vid. setting looks/runs fine ...
Good luck in reaching success for your unrefundable download - I am confident that you will.
I am concerned that if in October I buy a new Windows 7 PC I shall also spend days trying to get Monkey Island 5 to run.
I advise anyone considering buying this game to try the alleged free DEMO first - I didn't/wasn't aware that it existed.
64bits ...
SPOILER
Now I must go and power-up the lappie and continue from 3 hours doing it/post-treasure burying bit/2 hours after trying in pink bloomers blowing up ship-captain after eventually tring to climb clothes-line with lit bomb in place ...
It is now 0836 UK and the CH 5 is 'not yet available' ...
Please can I/others have what we paid for 5 months ago.
Thanks/Happy Christmas/look forward to DVD in 6 months.
Yes.
Having experienced thrill of main fine desktop (on which previous 4 Monkey Island games are installed/run) being continually crashed only by TOMI/reverting to playing TOMI 1 on this lappie, I foolishly in UK now at 0840 cannot download that for which I paid £24.99
MORAL: Only buy proven real not vapour ware.
I am an old git who has already on disks the previous 4 Monkey Island titles (in boxes-on floppy-on CD/DVD etc) bought the day they were released.
Have had fresh air thanks, and would like what I-others have bought.
Fact is that nothing in TOMI should require PC better spec'd than ones that effectively run Monkwy 1-4.
No, 0917 here in UK and my paid-for pt2 is still not available here in UK.
As for 'living longer' - best to buy only that which exists, it seems ...
Strange that a lot of 18 year olds on this site are not aware that TOMI is arguably 5th in series dating back to when some of us bought it in early 1990s.
Being kind/occasionally speaking up when appropriate is a good thing.
In case anyone wanted certainty our Charlie has no idea how episodic gaming works...
(Also, lol. He states several times you should only buy available stuff over the past year and still pre-orders the DVD)
Now, now, no need to insult him. I still think he didn't get that Steam is basically just a store selling the digital game sans DVD, and that by buying from telltale he would have had digital game + physical DVD for the same price.
I know it will arrive, and I am waiting patiently. I feel giddy and happy for waiting, sometimes the feeling of wanting something, is better than actually owning it.
Well not if it's a million or a big house, but still.
Let me explain the concept of pre-ordering to you, charliestumpy:
Now, first, take a look at the word "pre-order". You'll notice the dash in the middle. DON'T PANIC. This is used in English (and most other) languages to show that the word you're using is actually two words pasted together. The two words pasted together in this case are "pre" and "order".
You may be wondering "What the hell is a pre?", but let's skip that part for now and focus on the second part. "order". Let's look that word up on wiktionary, shall we? Wiktionary gives 16 different definitions of the word. This may seem like a lot, but DON'T PANIC. Most of those, when you think about it, don't really make a lot of sense in the context of getting your hands on that Monkey Island DVD. In fact, the only one that does is number 4: A request for some product or service. That's right: you clicked some buttons in the TellTale store, and these told the good people at TellTale that you requested a product (namely, the Monkey Island DVD).
Now let's look at the first part. "pre". Now we're threading into deep linguistical waters, as this is not actually an English word. But DON'T PANIC. As difficult as the concept of other languages may sound, you don't need to go out of your way to learn one, as I happen to speak the language the word "pre" comes from. It's called Latin, and it's a language that hasn't been spoken for quite some time, but had a large influence on a lot of languages. The word "pre-" is Latin for "Before". Now, to understand the meaning of this word, we're going to have to delve into temporal mechanics. Have you ever noticed how things around you change? The sun goes up and down, the weather changes, Mickey Mouse's hands turn around and around on your watch, and your mommy's hair slowly becomes gray. This is because of a thing called "time". You can see time as a sort of river. You are on a raft called "Present", and you are taken by the current in a single direction. That direction is called "Future". The direction you come from is called "Past". Now don't be scared of falling in the water, as it's only a metaphor. You're not really on a raft. The past, is things that have already happened. You may even have some memories of it. The future is things that have not yet happened, but are going to happen. You can't have memories of it. And finally, the present are things that are happening right now.
Now, imagine we have two events, let's call them event A and event B. For example, event A is your mommy buying you an ice cream, and event B is it melting and dropping on you pants. These events can happen at the same time, or at different times. Let's assume they happen at different times. Now imagine event A is happening right now. Now, we can look at both the future and the past for event B. If event B, as seen from event A, is in the future, we say that event A happens "before" event B. If event B is in the past as seen from event A, we say that event B happens "before" event A.
Now, what could that mean for the meaning of the word "pre-order"? Thus far, we have found the meanings of the two words it's made up of:
1: Pre: Before
2: Order: A request for some product or service
Now, if we patch those two definitions together, we get: "A request for some product or service before..." Now you may wonder "But wait! We just saw you always need two events to say one is "before" the other! What's going on?" In this case, the second happening is the actual sending of the DVD. So, the meaning of the word "pre-order" in this situation is "to request the DVD before it is sent."
Now, let's take a look at the happenings related to Monkey Island in the past year. We're gonna do this straight from the past to the future, passing the present along the way:
May 2009: Everyone has long given up any hope for there ever being a new Monkey Island. This period is commonly known among Monkey Island fans as "The Dark Ages".
June 2009: Telltale and LucasArts announce the Special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island and Tales of Monkey Island. And there was much rejoicing.
July 2009: Chapter one of Tales and the Special edition are both available for download. And there was even more rejoicing.
August 2009: Chapter two of Tales is available for download. And there was another round of rejoicing.
September 2009: Chapter three of Tales is available for download. You know the drill with the rejoicing.
October 2009: Chapter four of Tales is available for download. And there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth at the prospect of having to wait a month after the cliffhanger.
November 2009: The First Great Monkey Island Race happens.
December 2009: The final chapter of Tales of Monkey Island is available for download. The rejoicing is enormous. Also, Guruguru manages to beat apenpaap for the second place of the Second Great Monkey Island Race with just 16 minutes.
January and February 2010: Nothing happens.
March 2010: People can finally "pre-order" the Tales DVD. And there was much rejoicing.
April 2010: The rejoicing slowly turns to bitching.
May 2010: The bitching gets worse. NOTE: THIS IS THE PRESENT. WE WILL BE GOING INTO THE FUTURE FROM HERE ON.
Late May/June 2010: TellTale ships the Monkey Island DVDs. And there was much rejoicing.
July 2010: LucasArts releases the special edition of LeChuck's Revenge. Blablabla rejoicing. Also, apenpaap manages to beat Guruguru in the First Great Monkey Island Race with just 15 minutes.
August 2010- April 2011: Nothing.
May 2011: TellTale announces they are manking Monkey Island 6. And there was much rejoicing.
Now, the two events I want you to look at are People being able to "pre-order" the DVD in March 2010, and the DVD being sent in late May/June 2010. If we pretend the Pre-ordering is right now, late May/June 2010 is still 3 months in the future. This means the "pre-ordering" is "before" the shipping. Hey, isn't that funny? That's exactly what, as we saw earlier, the word means! It means whe you order the DVD, it won't be sent to you immediatly, but in the future!
Same, the anticipation that something is on it's way, and you haven't seen it adds to the experience. It's the excitement of getting the item that makes it even better.
And then in the end, it all pays of and you finally have it. Not that I am saying that pre-orders should last a few years to increase the excitement.
Well, I do have to roll my eyes when he says in the same post:
Since July I have paid/downloaded my 4 chapters.
and
Please can I/others have what we paid for 5 months ago
.
So, he has downloaded it in July. And he asks if he can have it? You've had it, and, from your own admission, used it since July. And on Steam, they don't give you a DVD ever, and they don't promise to do so. So, yeah, you're very confused I think.
But I think it's a case of having no idea about things, and not being stupid.
So, does that mean we just have to wait for the extra items for the deluxe edition and get the DVD before that, or do we have to wait for the deluxe items to ship to get the DVD?
They ship as one package. I wouldn't have minded waiting longer for them to remove that ugly white space from the map though...
So, you're basically saying that because I got the extra stuff, I can't get the DVD until weeks after everyone who got the standard package gets the DVD? Damn.
So, you're basically saying that because I got the extra stuff, I can't get the DVD until weeks after everyone who got the standard package gets the DVD? Damn.
Yes but how many people also ordered Voodoo cards, shot glasses, art portfolios with their standard dvds? They are going to be delayed too.

Pretty much everyone (and everyone here) got voodoo cards and the deluxe edition. I also got the poster prints, well I got pretty much everything except the buttons.
So it looks like the standard stuff is gonna miss the end of the month release, and probably a July Release for the other stuff.

It is too!
You're 100% right!

Apenpaap, you're my super bestest friend. Also, there's no way in hell you're beating me.
I beg to differ. I think it's a case of rage fueled by a sense of entitlement and willful ignorance in order to allow that rage to continue.
And I'm finally ready for bed now. For reals this time.
Well yes, and ignorance and "having no idea about things" are the same. Ignorance and stupidity are different, though.
At most 5 4 more days for them to start shipping.
...cutting it kinda close.
Just kidding...
So, you're basically saying that because I got the extra stuff, I can't get the DVD until weeks after everyone who got the standard package gets the DVD? Damn.
Look closer, that's cloth not paper.
I don't like the surrounding white cloth either, but I also own scissors.

I'm hoping they ship them separately.
My invoice consists of the Deluxe Edition, T-Shirt and Poster print. I wonder if that will cause it to be super delayed.
the poster has allready been shiped
