now we know Rapp is le flay i think we can count out largo and wally (not that it made sense anyway as the voice is CLEARLY female) as I just dont see Telltale casting a woman. PLEASE BE KATE :D
I reckon it's got to be someone from the first two games who hasn't made another appearance because otherwise the lines 'I've been waiting a long time for this Guybrush' won't really be relevant.
But morgan le fay was a woman in folklore, still possible that its a bloke i suppose despite sounding very feminine. I just feel the line 'Ive been waiting a long time for this' strongly hints at a character from secret or revenge with Kate being the obvious one-this was just my first thought anyway. She is a character telltale can work with and develop more than others
also, about the description given by the bloke outside the courthouse-I assumed the description was based on rumours and he probably hadnt actually seen le flay. Haggis? seriously doubt it!
edit:just realised guitarsareboring made the exact same point above, sorry!

I think it's because pirates don't want to admit that a woman beat them, so they just make stuff up.

Yeah, and I don't think Otis or Carla really care to see Guybrush again. I also don't think Wally held a grudge against Guybrush because he always tried to right his wrongs, giving him the lens to the replace the monocle and trying to free him when he was taken by LeChuck. Him being caught by LeChuck was because he tried to get the key to Wally's cell, so maybe they're even?
Kate Capsize seems like a good choice:
Optionally, Guybrush could've left Kate in the jail on Phatt Island because it wasn't mandatory to release her. He never told her that it was his fault and she hates pirates after being framed, would be an excellent motive for revenge.
She knows the name 'Guybrush' and he gave his name to the reporter, as well as everyone on the island. The reporter said 'every Tom, Dick and Guybrush' even though Guybrush isn't a common name.
Kate referenced Flotsam Island; she has her own ship and handed out leaflets in Monkey 2. If the pirate hunter has fliers on Flotsam, it's fair to say that they would've been trapped there too, because the winds have been in effect for more than two years.
Guybrush already had a bounty on his head during Monkey 2, news travels slowly on Flotsam Island. She would've never known that it was already claimed and she wouldn't care because she had another motive.
Marquis looked at the flier in episode 1, the only way he could've contacted the pirate hunter this early is if he/she was also stuck on the island. This could be timed perfectly with her appearance at the end of episode one.
If she was trapped on Flotsam after becoming a pirate hunter, she would probably hate Guybrush more for making her hate them in the first place and getting her trapped again, so to speak.
In another topic, someone said that it was weird to have a reporter in the Monkey Island universe. Now it really would be, unless there was an important purpose for one.
Guybrush even mocked the size of her ship. It could probably be hidden on Flotsam Island.
Elaine probably thinks Guybrush is dead (again) and LeChuck could be trying to win her over, or make it look like she likes him, so that Guybrush is hurt. Kate could become a second love interest.
The relationship between Guybrush and Kate mirrors the relationship of Guybrush and Elaine; he stole from both, used pickup lines on both and has been rejected by both. They're both strong characters, however in recent games Elaine has become a damsel in distress. Since he settled down with Elaine, his status amongst pirates and his adventures have become more exaggerated (ties in with Monkey 3 and 4? He keeps a journal in Curse; maybe those adventures were recalled from that, kind of like how an absurd imaginary Monkey 5 fills in the blanks for Tales.)
Kate could be Elaine's sister, going by the origins of the pirate hunter's name.
Kate referenced Flotsam Island, she has her own ship and handed out leaflets in Monkey 2 (Whereas she has fliers in Tales?) If the pirate hunter has fliers on Flotsam, it's fair to say that they would've been trapped there too, because the winds have been in effect for more than two years.
That is an EXCELLENT point... I am now completely convinced that it's Kate!
...NOT Carla. Voice is not a close enough match to EFMI Carla. Although they may have recast her, I do not believe they would go with someone with such a different sounding voice.
...NOT Wally. The voice is clearly female, not a high-pitched male. If this is the voice they chose for Wally, I quit TMI.
...MAYBE Kate Capsize. A possibility, but as others have pointed out she had a very tiny role to play in MI2. She wasn't even included in the "lite" version of MI2. This may be a little bit too much built up suspense for that character.
...PROBABLY Morgan Le Fey. Seems to be the best fit.

You actually make another excellent point. If the lite version was canon, Guybrush would've bought the map piece with the plaque and she wouldn't have any motive for wanting revenge on him.
Now we know Guybrush has the pirate hunter's flier, I think this would also mirror how Guybrush used the leaflet to frame her. He could use the pirate hunter flier to get her in trouble again.
"i dont think theres any question that its morgan le fey "
But there IS still some question about whether Morgan LeFlay is simply an alias. I think given her words to him at the end of Chapter 1, that's entirely plausible.

yeah thats what i mean, its debateable whether we will see a new character for le fey but i guess not. Its almost certainly an alias because the name is used in folklore... I feel kate is the only recurring character that will work with this type of cliffhanger as we dont know what she sounds like (and has a motive)
I cant think of any other women that knows guybrush and may have a motive. except carla-but Telltale wouldnt change her voice so drastically from EMI just so that they can have a more effective cliffhanger.
For me, its Kate or someone new

On the other hand, in a situation where previous games offered alternate story angles, we have to assume a future game would need to pick one as canon if it chose to address it. According to EMI, for example, the ending of MI1 was the one where the crew was left behind. People who happened to not sink the ship with the boulder would have been very confused as to why the crew was angry with Guybrush. Besides which, it's probably a safe assumption that discrepancies introduced by the "lite" version of MI2 would be wholly ignored, as it lacks key scenes from the full game and was removed (or at least hidden) from all versions once the game hit CD format.
It might also be relevant that Capsize could optionally be freed from her cell, but I suppose the end result would still be the same once she found out her imprisonment was Guybrush's fault. Also, I'm in the camp that the person in the cliffhanger is the alluded pirate hunter, whether that be Kate or a new character entirely.
I was just thinking about Elaine's bit of dialogue early on in the game where she says that, if she weren't married and LeChuck weren't undead, she'd find his persistence flattering. Maybe she really is falling for him...
It can't be irrelevant that LeChuck didn't seem all that menacing after his transformation. It'll be interesting to see where they go with his story.
Also, between LeChuck turning human, a locket being a symbol of the Voodoo Lady's romance, and a cliffhanger where a (possibly) old character returns in a surprise twist, I'm seeing a whole lot of similarities with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. (If this observation has already been made, forgive me - I didn't read the 12 pages of this thread.) Though considering how many plot points those movies, coincidentally or not, seemed to borrow from the MI games, it's probably fair.

She could have amnesia after the wreck, LeChuck would've been the one to save her because she was tied up. He could've easily removed the ring, I might have a look at that last scene to see if she had the ring on. It would explain why she isn't instantly repulsed by him, even as a human, like she was before the first game.
Edit: She isn't wearing her wedding ring at the end of Episode 1.
LeChuck even stole a ring before from the undead bride on Blood Island, I think that was foreshadowing.
Guybrush chartered her glass-bottom boat to search for the figurehead of the Mad Monkey and pasted her picture over his wanted poster so that she would get arrested and he could steal her stuff.
Oh yeah, forgot. So that would make sense if it was her. Besides Guybrush didn't really say that he'd met
Morgan Le Fley when he read the flyer
but as someone said it could be a pseudonym for someone else
Isn't Elaine's left hand hidden behind her arm? And isn't that where you wear your ring?
Probably just missed the screenshot, I didn't notice a ring on either hand though. Maybe someone that runs the game at a high resolution can try taking one?
She's still wearing the diamond as an earring though, possibly because LeChuck doesn't understand it's significance.
Possibly because no one has seen morgan l.f and are just assuming its a he?
as someone pointed out earlier, perhaps the pirates who have been 'hunted' by le fay are ashamed that its a woman and have lied to keep face! seemed a bit OTT when he/she was described by the bloke by the courthouse as a terrifying giant of man with a red beard (that was wrong i know, but it was something along those lines )
perhaps these lies have grown out of proportion. The voodoo lady described them as a she if i remember correctly

Yeah, I've heard that they mention a red bearded giant and a midget with a pegleg, which makes me think they're talking about the barbershop quartet. They might even have a reason for hating Guybrush because in CoMI
he gave them melted cheese as a substitute for tar, probably didn't work out.
Comments
And at the beggining if you knock on the doctors door you can hear him say ow my nose, so maybe his nose was amputated resulting in his girl voice.:D
I got nose first time i played it, been playing through again and the patient changes. you also can hear someone shouting about their eye or leg
She could still be Wally. Even though he is in his 20's, he has the body of a child.
It could be but I don't think Wally is the sort of person to hold a grudge. The last time we saw him he was blubbering was he not?

Though now i dont get why everyone on the island referred to morgan le flay as a HE.
Possibly because no one has seen morgan l.f and are just assuming its a he?

"Hopefully off a cliff."
Because I guess you could say it actually happened.
Oh right, I forgot that the uncursed diamond ring exploded!

She doesnt mention Flotsam Island as such just the word Flotsam-something about 'the sea of Flotsam'. Im sure somone else can expand on that
Saved me the time of getting ScummVm again
thats pretty cool for ttg to reference something from mi2
