Now that would be awesome! You know, if he'd teamed up with a hot chick (because what woman wouldn't love to hook up with Murray?) she could be the one holding the sword and stuff.

I'm sure Murray could learn to wield a sword for himself... and walk. He's clearly disquising his voice and is probably wearing a mask so Guybrush won't recognize him. Yep defilantly Murray I'm convinced myself. :D

This made me laugh out loud :D!

So at some point in the upcoming chapters, Morgan will whip off her mask and reveal her true identity?

I mean, masks clearly go places in the Caribbean. Peg-nose Pete can attest to that.

My money is on Largo (who is also Morgan le Fay). He wore a bra, so he could have had some hormonal imbalance, hence the feminine voice. Plus, no one actually heard his voice before (except in that April Fools several years ago).

Largo probably has more reason than anyone to spend his life hunting down Guybrush. And the feminine voice seems like just the kind of joke that Telltale would want to use to throw us off, and subsequently surprise us with after a month of speculation.

And sorry if this has all been said before, I didn't read all 17 pages.

Like I said 1 page before lol:

Guys, this is obvious I think.

Remember in Monkey Island 2, Largo Legrand was wearing a bra.
After what happend to him and what Guybrush did to him, he had a sex change and also changed his name to Morgan Le Flay.
Which could be an anagram for:

Morgan Le Flay = Largo Lyfe Man
Morgan Le Flay = Largo Fyle Man
Morgan Le Flay = Largo Le Fy Man
Morgan Le Flay = Largo Le Man Fy
Morgan Le Flay = Largo yn Femal = "Largo is a female"?
Morgan Le Flay = Largo Femalyn
    ...and so on.....

try to play some more with the letter I'm to tired, but I'm sure it's an anagram for Largo somehow.

    What do you think?
  • edited July 2009
I think Largo is the sponge

    @Keregioz

I think you completely glazed over the fact that I said it would sound like what the Voodoo Lady might sound like sans hilariously overdone accent, which would actually result in a character that sounds (shock!) rather different from the Voodoo Lady, it's just a matter of being able to separate voice from accent.

And I've recently replayed Escape from Monkey Island (just over a month back) and I do think the clip sounds close enough to Carla from EMI, I didn't at any point even try to claim that it was exactly the same, which is what you seem to be falsely implying I said.

It's fun how words can be twisted, even in a direct quote, if you just ignore the chunks of the post you're quoting that aren't so convenient. I really don't like it when people do that, it's so ... political. :p Especially since you're just picking at a guy for his opinion, we aren't running for Telltale forum President, last I checked.

I don't really get why you are offended by my post. I understood just fine what you meant and I still think there's no connection between the two voices. Which is confirmed since we now know it was a completely different voice actress.
Talking about "twisting words", I didn't imply that you suggested that the voices are exactly the same. I think what you meant in your quote and what I meant in my answer were both pretty clear. I was just disagreeing.
  • edited July 2009
Well, we've already seen the Voodoo Lady under that "Deep Gut" pseudonym, so its more than probable that Morgan Le Flay is an alias for someone, too.
  • edited July 2009
And if it's just Morgan Le Flay, a new character?
Assuming Morgan is a new character, the line still makes sense:
    - Morgan hears of the mysterious pirate Guybrush Threepwood and his adventures
    - And because of him, she decides to become a pirate hunter
    - Hence, she is glad to finally see Guybrush so she can fulfill her destiny.

So few male characters are being considered. Let's not restrict the option of a sex change to just Largo! There's always Wally, Meathook, Otis, Herman, the mayor of Phatt city, etc. Anyone of those could have had a sex change! And while Wally, for some unexplicable reason, seems like the most likely to have actually done so, I would be highly amused to see female Meathook. And just perhaps the mayor of Phatt city got his life together, lost roughly two hundred pounds, and is chasing Guybrush down to get back that Book of Pirate Quotations he stole from him back in MI2?

    I left Murray out as an option for a sex change because, well . . . hmm . . . What would you . . . err . . . change?

So just to make sure we're all clear. It's confirmed that it's a woman. It's confirmed that it's not the same voice actress as the Voodoo lady. It's confirmed that it's Morgan Le Flay.

    Right.

    I think it is Kate:)
  • edited July 2009
At the ending my first thought was it might be Kate, who had become the pirate hunter. Reading through this thread makes it seem very plausible.

I hope Guybrush will tease her though, about Captain Kate Capsize actually capsizing on Flotsam Island :)

The Voodoo lady says something like "The past? the future? It's hard to tell." I tend to lean towards a future line, because I don't think Murray and Carla were ever together, in fact, I don't think any of the female characters have talked with Murray.

Wait, if that were true does that mean that Murray will be in the game?! If someone else has pointed this out already, sorry, I'm still on page 4. I don't read the thread for a few days and it gets longer than a Harry Potter book ;)

Anyone considered his mother in law? ; P She seemed to have quite a grudge to Guybrush. Early on in the episode it is noted that their relationship was quite severe, add in the fact that he also sunk her ship

She could also be misreferenced as elaines sister. ; P

If it is a female with a motive for revenge from the previous games Kate is the most obvious choice.
the only 5 women from the games that might potentialy have any issues with him are Kate (MI2), teacher (MI4), britany (MI4), muglady(MI4) and Carla (MI1/MI4).
Carla got a cushy from him so she seem less likely.
Britany wasn't to concerned about losing the job anyway.
The muglady just seems like a very unlikely choice.
Teacher seemed anti pirate enough but to frail to be of much harm.
could also be margaret thatcher wearing a bacon bikini
This is a humorous adventure game not a horror game...

Also, she was SO anti-pirate, I don't really see her sticking a cutlass in Guybrush's face! And she had a very distinctive voice that I think even a new actress would want to imitate somewhat.

Forgive me if someone's already mentioned this (I've looked through most of this thread, but it's too long now to look at everything) but...

...Has anyone considered that it might be someone called Spinner Cay?

I'm positive it's Morgan Le Flay (who is possibly a previously known character; Kate or whoever) or why would Singe have made such a big deal about putting him/her on Guybrush's tail with NO ramification?
  • edited July 2009
I have a couple of thoughts as to the identity of our Mystery Sword wielding maniac
    • A brand New charachter, but someone that Guybrush has influenced the life of in someway by interacting with a relative or something (the aforementioned Spinner Cay for example)
    • Kate Capsize, as has already been theorized here
    • Elaine. From the Future. (yes this is the somewhat "Out there" Theory) In the voodoo Shack the VL says "The Past, The Future who can tell." What if there is some manipulation of the Time stream? (okay wacky ideas are off.)

The problem I see with it being Kate (or elaine) is that honestly, The 'Brush didn't seemed to socked to see whoever it was, or even recognize them, just in his usual cool tone ask them to wait longer.

Maybe its the talking Monkey (JoJo jr) out of EMI

OH FOR THE LOVE OF PETE

I can't believe I just read (ok, skimmed) eighteen pages of post and not a single person had the same thoughts on this mystery person that I did??!

Seems like the voice actress for the "Threatening Voice" at the end is Nicki Rapp, who does a lot of children voices.

I think a new character would be more interesting than bringing back an old one though...

All I thought was "Hey, Guybrush and Elaine DID have a kid, and she's finally caught up with him!"

Seriously. Guybrush mentions his kid's college fund if you try to give the pirate doll away. She's the daughter of Guybrush Threepwood "Mighty Pirate", and Elaine Marley (the intelligent half of the relationship). Even if she's ten years old, I'd think she have inherited enough sass, inventiveness and bravado from the both of them to figure out a way to chase her parents down. I can see her wanting to join her dad to save her mom (and her dad from himself), and of course Guybrush would have tried to make her stay behind.

Now, I'm not saying this is the most ideal way for the plot to go - writing children into a story is usually a sure sign that the writing is going downhill - but it's completely plausible, and I have enough faith in Telltale that if this is the case that they would be able to make it work. Besides, they're smart enough not to shoehorn in a minor character just for the fans, unless he/she were really integral to the plot.

I'm really the only one who saw this?

It seems like we pretty much ruled out Carla (which makes me sad, and I was in denial) but after listening to the voice again, it sounds too young to be Carla and now I'm 100 percent thinking it's Kate Capsize a.k.a Morgan Le Fley. But I would like to see Carla in ToMI... just cuz

    +1

I converted from pro carla to pro kate aka morgan le flay :)

Lots of well thought out stuff

But the 'Brush mentions a Decades worth of treasure, and since no baby was present at the end of EfMI, That would mean the kid is at most 9 years and 3 months old.

Not old enough to sound like that, alas.

    ooo, this is a toughie.

i don't think it's carla, and i don't think it's wally, if they used that voice for wally, i would be really disappointed (unless it was the pox or something).

Kate and Largo seem like good options, i would laugh a lot if it was Largo though,i doubt he would make a very pretty woman, but it would be hilarious to see him in woman form, while at the same time, maybe a bit disturbing :p, it's just not something you could take seriously, even with a cutlass at yer throat, which is just all the more reason why it could be Largo i suppose?

then there's the new character option, which would be fine as well, but im hoping it's an old character returning.

The following line is written in the official walkthrough:
"Guybrush is held up at sword-point by a mystery woman, who remains unseen."
So it HAS to be a woman.

    no it doesnt

    TTG are smart asses

but the chance of it being a guy is low

im still going for kate capsize

It's got to be Kate - she probably had to spend the last 10 years in prison because of Guybrush!

It's Largo after his sex change.

Remember a few years ago, that fake MI5 trailer which also featured Largo Legrand?

I dunno if someone already noticed that in Monkey Island 2 Kate Capsize mentions "Flotsam" in one of her lines ("The captain eventually died of boredom while we were crossing the sea of beige flotsam"), but in that context Flotsam is not intended as an island.
  • edited July 2009
ye we talked about it on page 15

seems to me shes talking about the sea that surrounds the island

In that pic, Kate is clearly bigger then Guybrush so it can't be here.

And why do people keep thinking it's Kate.
Bringing back such a minor character who most people don't even remember doesn't make any sense what so ever.

It's either a new character or someone everybody remembers.

My vote is still on sex changed Largo Legrand.

somebody everybody remembers? Most people who remember MI2 remember kate capsize. not really a valid point. I wouldnt say she was a minor character, she had a fairly significant role in the second game and a memorable role imo. A minor character for me would be the librarian the the cook. she was definately more memorable than alot of other 'minor characters' in mi2
Dono why people feel the swordsman/woman has to be short becuase from what i saw its impossible to say, allthough my first impression was that they were taller than guybrush. Guybrush seems to look up at her if anything.
I wouldnt be disappointed if it turns out to be a sex changed Largo on the other hand!

For the record, I don't think it is Kate, but why does everybody seem to think that the assailant is shorter than Guybrush? Just watch the video again.
